About Essence Bloom

"I will show you a path to happiness."

Essence Bloom is a linear story-focused Visual Novel that is centered around the MC (the player) living in a peaceful world where he spends time with friends:

Hikari - Aka, "The Sunshine Girl," is always smiling and happy. In fact, she seems obsessed with it and wants everyone else to be as happy as she is.

Yuna - She runs the coffee shop, is number one in her class, and still finds time to take care of her younger sister, Saeko. She's bossy and blunt, but she has a gentle heart deep down.

Saeko - She is the opposite of her older sister, Yuna, in almost every way. She's clumsy, timid, and very reliant. She also seems confused most of the time and worries everyone, but she is well loved.

Kagome - She's a well-disciplined martial arts champion who will defend anyone she cares about, no matter the sacrifice. She can also, surprisingly, be a bit bashful.

The friends spend their time in school studying, working at their local coffee shop, and doing fun activities. Everything is peaceful until things start to happen that threaten the serenity of this world...

Features: A story-rich experience with aesthetic visuals, energetic characters, and ~4 hours of dialogue.

✔️ Played on Steam Deck, it works fine (21/10/2024). 'A' button to advance text and touchscreen for the menu. It always pains me to not recommend free games that clearly have some love and time invested on them, but this story is not worth reading in my opinion. Takes too long to build up for how short it is and characters are really weirdly written.

Firstly there's no achievements here. Secondly this genre of visual doesn't really thrill me but that's just a me thing. Art quality is good and the music is well done and its a short kinetic visual novel so there is no choices. Also it's free. It's a free story that someone has put time and effort into.
Steam Deck Experience: Playable
You'll need to setup mouse controls or use the touchscreen, but the game is completely playable. The onscreen text might be hard to read, and you will need to manually invoke the onscreen keyboard to enter your character's name. It really pains me to not recommend a FREE visual novel, but it didn't feel worth the time it took to read it. The characters were pretty bland and the main character is so dense you can probably feel the gravitational pull of his head when you stand next to him. Also, this story only felt like the first half of a complete story. I think that is what they were going for, but it's still annoying there isn't a conclusion before the story ends. It was pretty obvious that
almost everyone was a bit unhinged
really early in the story and it was just a matter of waiting to see
who broke first
and how.
