About Powers of Hex
Powers of Hex is a heavily inspired, non-linear experience that should elicit memories of classic, 2D platformers from the 80s.
While the nostalgic visuals and sound have you feeling good, it is your task to play as Hex on a quest to obtain all 6, unique, magic powers from Elfvis. Are you really the bad guy if Elfvis is keeping your true potential from you?
Make your way from the title screen, straight into the action. Just pick your first theme and start the stage. No boring tutorial needed to hold you back!
The stage layouts are each specifically designed to transparently teach you as you play.
Learning as you play, use the selection menu to switch to whichever magic spell you prefer for the current, evolving challenges you will face.
There will be many and they will vary, but Elfvis waits for you at the end of each area. Overpower those guys, outwit their behavioral patterns and you shall net yourself a brand new ability to experiment with.
Take their power and become a true wizard.
...And if you should manage to skillfully overcome all that is laid out before you? A final path forward shall open to let you really test your developed talents, but you'll really have to prove you are worthy first.

This game is a slog to get through. Not only is it a crappy knock off of Megaman, the music is screechy and repetative, and the difficulty is horifically unbalanced. Casual makes the bosses absolute jokes, but the stages stay challenging, Normal and Hard make the bosses absurdly difficult and the lead up to them even more punishing than usual. There are also hundreds upon hundreds of instant death tiles all over every single level. It really feels like the levels were only designed that way to increase playtime. I'd highly recommend avoiding this.

It's a typical 2D platformer but the controls are sometimes unresponsive.
This game is defined by one word suffering. Developer why do you hate us?
So... The game looks neat and the controls are good to handle. Unfortunately, that's all the complements that I can give because this game ends up being a textbook example of NES-Hard in motion. The movement in this game seems fine... Till you start jumping and realize how awkward much of the platforming is going to be with such a jump; The knock-back ends up being aggravating at the best of times and will frequently lead to your death in most stages; The level design frequently has long stretches of instant-death stage-design to deal with, combined with an infrequent checkpoint system, combined with a LIVES SYSTEM which, of course, sends you back to square one when you game over. At least the game has the mercy to not require you to replay the entire game to finish it, but still... This game ends up being so brutal that it basically ends up being NES-Hard in the end, and unless you're THAT dedicated to finishing the game, you should just avoid this game completely.
