Pretty solid game. Blends a lot of science fiction and open-world styles into one. Definitely similar to a lot of the biggest franchises of the time while keeping its slavjank charm. It's worth picking up if you don't mind a lot of travel time between quests and npcs.

This is a thumbs up with a BIG caveat - I ran into a game-breaking bug and was unable to finish Precursors after 10 hours of playtime, which was very saddening. However, I'm still giving it a thumbs up because I really liked the parts of the game I was able to access and I went into the game knowing it has a reputation for being essentially unfinished (due to financial issues) So, I was prepared for a sudden ending already - it's just that the ending came even earlier for me! Precursors is one of those underground immersive sims that can be quite jarring at first as you get accustomed to its unusual systems and pacing. I almost gave up on it between the 1-2 hour mark, but then things started to "click" and I got familiar enough with its quirks to become immersed in the adventure. The graphics also look really good on a modern computer, lots of creative design and atmospheric lighting - the visual style is a little reminiscent of Halo 1 and Half Life 2 with a big dollop of Star Wars influence mixed in. The gameplay mixes a lot of different ideas - inventory management and equipment maintenance reminiscent of Arma/DayZ, open world FPS/RPG adventuring and side questing like Fallou…

Ah well, if only this game development was finished, it would probably a best seller of its time, because FPS combined with RPG, planet exploration and space shooting were not exist.

It's some sort of proto-Starfield, and it's surprisingly good. It has interesting gameplay, cool encounters and just plays a lot with its own setup and systems. A lot of games these days are too focused on one combat style or one combat distance, Precursors throws a lot of situations at you and just lets you resolve them your way. Of course it's aged as heck, and I encountered a game breaking bug that blocked me from continuing the game. I actually tried to get my hands on it back when it originally released in 2009, but never was able to, bless Steam. Just don't expect a polished experience.

Avoid! I just kept getting file corruption with quicksave so I gave up on the game. Too bad, i was getting comfortable with the game mechanics but this was just a waste of time for me. If this file corruption ever gets fixed, I will give it another go. Just release the source code already!
