About Curtain Call

Curtain Call is an auto-battler with classic stats and leveling mechanics, meaning you'll learn the ropes in no time. Order your performers before the battle begins, building synergies and powerful combos. Spend gold to hire new performers after each battle, building your troupe's strength. Performers are either Good or Evil. Hire the former to help you out, and the latter to stand as enemy antagonists. Set the stage, and take on the lead role! Battle your way through each stage earning tips from your fans, and put on a show they'll remember.  Collect items and hire performers to build a strategy all your own. Curtain Call boasts over 100 Good and Evil performers along with 100 different items, with a range of synergies between them for nigh-on infinite possibilities. Withdraw from your savings, sell performers, refresh or lock in shop offerings for next time around... Push your strategy to the limit as you micro-manage your way to victory.  Choose from three leads to play as, each with exclusive items and stratagems of their own for you to explore. Unlock their passives, grow stronger with each run, and take on 10 difficulty levels to push yourself to the limit.  Building on the art of Noobs Want to Live, Curtain Call's art design draws on classical history and culture to create an enchanting caricature style. It'll keep a smile on your face, right through to the final act!

Ignore the person saying there's no English, it works just fine, and the translation isn't bad. This is the newest game from a Korean studio whose name I think translates to "Sunny Side Up." Their first game is a delightful 2.5D Bullet Heaven game called "Noobs Want to Live." Both games feature some excellent absurdist humor and pop culture references, a wonderful shopkeeping giraffe that insults you. Curtain Call is an auto battler game where the twist is you're supporting a single character, the units you buy are either enemy units or supporting units. For example, you could buy a unit that gives dodge when adjacent or gives a shield after a kill, etc. You want to make sure you're purchasing enemies that synergize with your build. It allows for a pretty dynamic and engaging tactical spin on the genre.

The game is a huge positive surprise for me. I can confidently say it’s a hidden gem among rogue-like games. Mechanically, I really like the idea of creating a path for our hero to traverse, placing both aids and obstacles along the way. It’s like playing chess against yourself or a tower defense game where you’re simultaneously on both sides. Big kudos for this approach to the genre. Visually, it’s fantastic. Very beautiful pixel art with a great dose of humor in a cartoonish style. It’s definitely eye-catching and pleasing to look at. The only downside is that the game initially launches in Chinese, and when switching to English, some of the text in the descriptions overlaps. However, I hope the developers will polish this aspect. After completing my first run, I can’t wait to see what else this fascinating game has in store for me. Highly recommended!
