About One's Own Exile

A Short Narrative Experience

One's Own Exile was initially developed for a Game Jam competition. It is a short narrative experience that tells the tale of Sybil, an outcast in the region where she lives, which when pursued by the local guards needs to find a way to escape a tragic fate by concealing her identity.The game reflects upon what builds one’s identity, values and memories. How painful it is to sacrifice everything you hold dear, if the purpose is survival? Which one is better: the pain of unceasing struggle or the death that follows failure?

Persecution and sacrifice

Is it better to die or to live in pain?
Sybil was discovered; living hidden isn’t an option anymore. The narrative follows the story of a protagonist who, to escape persecution and the threat of death, needs to take all possible measures to trespass the country’s border.
 • Look for items that can help you in some way;
 • Observe the local customs in order to pass as one of them;
 • Find ways to conceal your identity, whatever the cost may be;
Lie, deceive and run away. Do what you must to survive.

Face Difficult Decisions

Sybil holds items and customs that are precious to her and her culture, and it's up to you to decide how much you want to abandon in pursuit of survival.Depending on how much you observe, and sacrifice, the outcome changes...But is every outcome desirable? Is a price too steep to pay?

One's Own Exile features multiple endings, that change according to your decisions and to how much information you obtain during the game.With 8 different endings, see if you can reach the desired conclusion to Sybil's fate.

It's a pretty good game. The game itself was nice. The movement and the graphics are unique. The story is beautiful and has meaning. The game is short yet unique. I love these types of games, I need more lol. Definitely recommend. ;b
The Tragedy of Mimicry
Once you’ve shed everything physical, all that’s left is to shed… yourself. Nothing is as frightening as the unfamiliar face staring back at you from the mirror. An empty vessel. An important reminder of how your identity is tied to the unique experiences that shape your memories. During failures, the game hints at where you went wrong during your escape. There are indeed many options. You’ll need to try a lot of things, combining solutions for different endings. Let’s hope that in the next shelter, Sybil won’t have to pretend to be someone completely different.

A very unique experience heavily hampered by the fact that there are people that go through this exact situation every single day, even in 2026.

An interactive visual novel where you must figure out how to save Sybil´s life. With multiple endings, a village to explore, pixel graphics that perfectly fit the thriller vibe, and a story with surprising depth, the game offers more than you might expect from a free title. There are also achievements, tulips to find, and a gallery for the endings. I definitely recommend giving it a try — a true hidden gem.
