Survivor (2019)

Survivor is an unconventional first-person experience that takes the familiar framework of a reality television elimination contest and transforms it into an interactive piece centered on social pressure, rejection, and competition. Instead of using the word “survivor” as an excuse for crafting, resource management, wilderness exploration, or combat, the game focuses on surviving within a group. The player enters an empty museum and joins a tribe of ten people, with participants progressively voted out until only one remains. Developed and published by Reija Meriläinen, the project has strong roots in contemporary art, having originally been conceived for the ARS17 exhibition at the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. The core objective is deliberately straightforward: remain in the group while everyone else is eliminated. Its “Outwit, Outplay, Outcast” concept establishes the tone, but the game is much less concerned with complicated strategic systems than with the uncomfortable implications of deciding who belongs and who does not. This game deserves better reviews. It's actually quite interesting. Maybe people just don't realize it's meant to be more of an artsy game.

extremely weird. i believe i played this on someone else's account too so i have probably a couple hours of playtime overall. i've yet to complete it and it's actually a bit difficult. it's a strange and infuriating experience as the controls are clunky and many things aren't explained to the player. but something about that improves the experience. i highly recommend it. i enjoy the existentialism.
