Players appreciate this Zelda-like for its classic handheld inspiration and compact design, but consistently criticize sluggish movement speed, poor programming quality, and frustrating bugs that undermine the experience. Common issues include unresponsive map functions, switches resetting themselves, items not pausing properly during menu navigation, and progression-breaking bugs like bosses getting stuck outside arenas. While some see potential in the developers' foundation and hope they improve with future projects, the execution falls short of even the older Zelda games it's trying to emul
I really wanted to love this game but when you're going out of your way to imitate a game that's come before you, you either need to do something interesting with it or really hone in on the gameplay and this just feels worse to play than the gameboy zelda games. The gamefeel is just worse than the oracle zelda games and it has nothing interesting to offer in a gameplay or puzzle perspective that isn't already stale. Still, I really hope the developers can keep going and can further refine their games in the future and grow to new heights. Every work done as an artist is a learning experience and I want to see what they do next2 found this helpful
A bit sluggish, it's playing a zelda game if Link's speed was reduced to 70% for everything from sword swings (Spear in this game) to picking up rocks and pots. That alone is frustrating but would give the game a good review still if everything else was decent. But it's not. The game is very badly programmed, after finding the map in a dungeon, half the dungeon map was missing when I returned later, only for me to realize, the LOADING ROOM was not shown on the map even. Places I bombed open will randomly re-seal, and some switches I hit will un-switch themselves, including one directly after the dungeon you get the bow in, turning the shortcut back into a 1-way trip, so you have to go back the long way through the dungeon to get back up the mountain... only for me to realize I didn't have the item I needed to get past there, but you DO need the bow to get to another zone someplace else entirely. This alone is bad enough, but add the "oh right, moving at 70% speed so I always feel slow", and it makes it feel that much worse. The game's "oops I forgot" reaches a peak when you get the spear upgrade for more damage, and early game enemies that used to take 2 hits will still take…1 found this helpful
Its been a while since I played a good Zelda clone.... and... this wasn't one of them. You move too slow, yet the point between falling and staying on the ground your on can be slippery. Switching items is akward and while the game "pauses" for you in that menu, items don't seem to and bombs CERTAINLY dont making points using bombs and arrows at the time a mad dash to get it done rather then just a riddle to solve, killing the fun of the moment AND before I got fed up having me personally convinced a boss was still able to attack while I did my best to switch to a healing potion as fast as I could. Add to this the map button not working half the time, AND finding a infinte loop where falling into water and spawning to fall into water NEVER STOPPED and I was just done. You can do SO MUCH better then this Im sure.1 found this helpful
Zelda like fun seemed ok but then it bugged out and boss got trapped out side the arena and stayed locked out stopping all further progression. Even after reload still stuck outside. Might be a rare bug but i can't recommend it. I liked it otherwise.1 found this helpful
A great little Zelda-like. I'd love for the devs to take this idea further in another game, as the mechanics and gameplay are solid, only needing expansion.
Despite some minor issues (the slow movement speed being the most annoying), this is a nice mini-Zelda for players who prefer the much older style. It's straightforward and compact, so there's not a ton of ability expansion or detailed exploration. Can easily be finished in a couple of sittings.
