About Hatch

Hatch is a PS1 / N64 style first person climbing game. Unforgivingly challenging and heavily focused on atmosphere, it's meant to mimic the feeling you get when rock climbing - frustrating, but highly rewarding when you reach the top.

There's more to it than the mechanics however; so be patient, careful, and enjoy the views on your way to the top!

Estimated play time: 30 - 60 minutes (or more)

CONTROLS:
WASD to move
Hold shift to walk
Mouse to look
Space to Jump
Climb by walking or jumping on angled walls
R to Respawn to the last checkpoint
Esc to pause in-game

✦ AI summary

Hatch is a short, atmospheric climbing game that players praise for its unique glitch-like movement mechanics, minimalist design, and emotional impact, with many finding it a relaxing and dreamlike experience. Common criticisms include the lack of settings options (particularly for text scaling on high-resolution displays) and limited mechanical depth, though some feel the game's artistic ambitions don't fully land.

Hatch caught my interest due to the look of the game since I quite liked the harsh look of it, and the idea of it sounded pretty fun. The main thing I like about it is that due to how the gameplay works in a lot of parts it feels like you're going through an unintentional shortcut, the gameplay is basically how it feels to glitch up sloped terrain in other games which is quite fun. It is short but considering the price I feel like that's obvious. I also liked the message that I got left with at the end of it, it did make me feel nice. For the negatives... the main one is the lack of any settings, I have a 4k monitor and the text and gui in general was extremely small, thankfully the game has next to no text or gui, so it's not a big issue. Overall I can recommend, what you see is what you'll get basically.

A short climbing game, about an hour long. For anyone familiar with jumping up mountains in Skyrim, it's like that. The game doesn't offer much of a challenge or the frustration that you find in most climbing games. It's a relaxing experience, with simple controls and lots of atmosphere.

it feels like it wants to be an art piece, and fails to grasp it.
