About Anamnesis
In the early 2000s, there was a project to digitize human memories, storing them as computer data to be viewed and experienced by anyone. Despite seemingly making good progress, it was scrapped, and all associated software and information was deleted, or so it was believed. In 2023, part of the project was rediscovered, found on an old hard drive, a single application, titled 'ANAMNESIS'.
The application is a fully digitized memory, a vivid memory where an overtime office worker experienced a power cut, and with nothing but a box of matches, they had to close up the office on their own. Complete the last few tasks they had and head to the exit, should be simple enough.
With just a box of matches protecting you from the unending dark, can you finish your tasks and escape the memory, or will you lose yourself to the madness? Matches don't last forever, and running makes them go out even faster, thankfully, there are plenty of matches throughout the office, but will it be enough?
Something is moving in the shadows, or so you think, an indescribable figure, or maybe it's your mind playing tricks with you, surely you can trust your own memory? It stalks through the dark, unpredictable, sometimes it follows you, but not forever, sometimes it goes and hides, it feels like it's always watching, but when you look at it, it doesn't move, isn't that strange?
The focus is on slow, tension-filled psychological horror that fills you with dread, rather than cheap scares. The office is suffocating, and the low amount of matches keeps you constantly under pressure. You never really know where the creature is, and where it's going to come from next, but if you want to survive, you'll need to keep a constant watch on your surroundings.

As promised, I'm changing my review to positive after a major game-breaking bug has been fixed. I think Anamnesis is legitimately one of the scariest and most brilliant horror games I have ever played, for three essential reasons: - the lore: technically speaking, the game is extremely minimalistic, but everything has been justified in a surprisingly clever way by the background lore, that, although very simple, manages to make the game extremely fascinating in a unique way - the monster: the main antagonist, that I nicknamed [spoiler]"vagina-mouth"[/spoiler], is one of the scariest things I have ever seen, not just because of its look, but above all because of the way it acts; at this point, anything I may potentially say about this would be a dreadful spoiler, so I'll just say that the dev managed to combine in a unique and terrifying way several classic mehanics of monsters of modern-day horror games, to create something that I'm sure will haunt my dreams for many nights - the silence: what most horror games devs don't understand nowadays is that the scariest thing in the universe is silence; in this game, the silence is absolute, you'll barely hear any sound during your gamepla…3 found this helpful
good game very scare and terror. silence is terrifying. fun mechanics that work well together. the aesthetic is pleasing and simple. enjoyed my play through even if i s**t myself a couple times even after being scared once or twice i was still scared the times after. i now have to platinum the game. Extremely slow-paced and boring "horror" game. Your stamina bar runs out in seconds and you have to find matches which don't last long in order to proceed. Terrible game.
A great little atmospheric title, with great use of silence to create the tension as opposed to goofy screams coming from the other side of the map. Not knowing where the monster is going to be and having really having no chance of guessing makes this such a nervous experience. Bonus points for not being a Gartans of Banban clone.
