A Rough Gem from a Stranger Timeline Iron Storm is one of those early-2000s PC shooters that didn’t try to compete on polish or spectacle. Instead, it leaned hard into vibe, concept, and a kind of grim, half-finished ambition that only that era could produce. The premise alone was unforgettable: World War I never ended. By 1964, the world is still locked in trench warfare, powered by crude diesel tech, iron exoskeletons, and experimental super-weapons. It felt less like history and more like a fever dream written by someone who’d read too much alternate history and didn’t care if it made perfect sense. And that was its strength. Atmosphere Over Everything Iron Storm’s environments were oppressive and bleak—mud, rusted steel, concrete bunkers, and endless gray skies. It wasn’t pretty, but it was cohesive. You felt trapped in a war that should have ended decades ago, grinding on out of inertia and cruelty. The sound design did a lot of heavy lifting: distant artillery, hollow footsteps, and weapons that sounded improvised rather than heroic. The premise is good, but as junky as I remembered. TPS view is a joke and only good for peeking over walls. Also, without some file tweeking, steam doesn't count your game time2 found this helpful

The game is nice, but if you actually wanna complete it, you most likely will need a guide. It's hard in some sections and buggy. There's a part where you have to go to different floors using an elevator and pressing the buttons is hell. If you try pressing the 1st floor button, it selects the 3rd or 4th. I might just be stupid but it took me so long trying to go to floor 0. Some enemies are a bit too hard sometimes, and there's some that just are godmode. I had to find out the hard way that infinitely stabbing an invincible soldier won't kill him. My game crashed numerous times when trying to use the tvs to check news and location of enemies (I know it's an old game but it was just annoying to see.) Also heads up if you wanna use steam overlay and let steam actually track your hours, the normal exe of the game doesn't use steam overlay so use a guide, there's an easy fix. The plot of the game is really nice in my opinion. I rate this game a 8/10 for the plot and lore, 5/10 mechanics and gameplay.1 found this helpful
