About OMUSUBI

This multi-ending Japanese-style horror adventure was the only game awarded the Grand Prize in the Newcomer's Award sponsored by "Game Magazine", which has published masterpieces by individual creators such as “Tsugunohi,” “Angels of Death,” and “Noel the Mortal Fate“.

This horror game allows players to enjoy a checkered adventure between this world and the next while immersing themselves in the mysterious world of the underworld through beautiful pixel art expression that makes the most of Japanese charm.

◆Assumed play time
To complete the game: about 3 to 4 hours
To collect all ED branches: about 6 to 8 hours

1)Visual beauty of “Wa”You can play games amidst beautiful Japanese visuals inspired by Kawase Hasui's new prints and other works.
Enjoy the beautiful ukiyoe-like landscapes and bold Kabuki-like illusions of the uniquely Japanese world of “death”.

2)Japanese-style horror scare experienceYou will experience a horror story with a production style that incorporates old Japanese customs and folklore, such as the Oiran Yashiki and the Kitsune no Yomeiri.
Please join the main character, high school girl Hinako, and experience the horror of a world “between life and death” that is unique to Japan.

3)A multi-ED story about “death"Facing the “death” of a relative, the artist impulsively started to create this work.
The story of the “irreplaceability” of life and the “connection with others” can be experienced by following several divergent routes through the centuries-long story of “love” between human beings and God in a small town in Japan.
Still illustrations and 2D animations drawn by the author himself are also found throughout the book.

A memory from the distant, distant past--
Hinako was crying in the forest,
A mysterious floating being gave her an "OMUSUBI" and .......

Time passed, and Hinako was living a peaceful life as a high school student.
However, her path to school suddenly turns into an eerie place,
The familiar riverbed has been transformed into the Sanzu River!

The river that Hinako is heading to is a hell, a place between this world and the next.
She encounters a crowd of bizarre creatures.
The girl's eyes are filled with the mysterious happenings of the heavenly world.
The girl and Issa, a man with a peculiar appearance, go through the mysterious devices of the mysterious mansion,
Will the girl be able to return safely to the “world” where her family awaits her?

The Japanese-style horror game, which won the only Grand Prize in the Newcomer's Award sponsored by "Game Magazine", is finally available on Steam.
Omusubi | Review in English and Italian

-------------------------------

English Review

Pros:
- Adorable graphics to look at, rich and filled with details (also, extremely fluffy!!!) - Animated bits are well done - The soundtrack in this is extremely evocative - The way savepoints are contextualized - The female characters are amazing, their will and inner strength being almost astounding, from little Sanae to Hinako herself (also, how good is it to see a chubby character being perfectly normalized as such?) - The amount of references to Japanese culture and beliefs, deeply ingrained in the entire story - Issa being a womanizer works well enough in its comical streak - Gameplay is simple, but never boring - Atmosphere works well enough between cartoony, fluff, comical, extremely moving, and overall CREEPINESS (those lumps of flesh... Jeez, I was white as a sheet) - The message itself is well developed
Cons:
- It's so easy to heal, in so many different ways, that losing lives really loses any tension, after a while (also, many healing items could easily be removed, and nothing would change at all) - The Celestial Being is wonder…

what a lovely game...i haven't completed all the endings yet, i liked it enough that i will eventually. i ended up being invested in their story, very sweet to me. i loved the visuals!!!! my one SERIOUS suggestion is -- do not rush through your experience of this game. if you rush, it wont be an enjoyable experience at all.

Absolutely wonderful RPG Maker game with stunning visuals and that classic feel that made me love them in the first place. It is a "walking" game with some puzzle bits, but the story is definitely worth it. There are quite a few of optional interactions between characters as well, so the game has good replayability even if not for the sake of experiencing the story again. Fighting sequences are the only annoying part of the game, but to me that's a bit of par the course - these games are not played for the one or two fighting sequences after all, so it's just something to grit your teeth through for a few minutes.

A BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECE. Quite frankly, the fact I didn't learn about this game sooner and had to learn through an hour of digging for something interesting to play is a pure tragedy and a disservice to the beauty this game holds. First and foremost: The characters. The protagonist? She's a cutie pie. More than that, she's canonically chubby, and the game never at any point makes it a joke or something to mock aside from one time she tries to discourage herself... only for the other person involved to comment that she's beautiful. Because of the fact she's chubby, the game never actually allows you to sprint unless the scene requires it, which is such a little thing, but something I thought was really adorable and made the experience all the more realistic. The second main character, Issa, is so charming and every interesting with him leaves you wanting more. You become so attached to him. These two are such an endearing duo that you just want to see them succeed and be happy. Second: The music. IT GOES HARD. IT GOES INSANE-O STYLE. IT'S ABSOLUTELY PEAK. There were some moments I just sat there for five minutes bopping my head because the music was so amazing and went hard…
