✦ AI summary

Players report the game is essentially unplayable due to severe technical issues with its DOSBox configuration, requiring extensive manual setup including file path conversions and installation procedures that should have been handled automatically. Multiple reviewers cannot even access the game itself and describe it as abandoned, making it impossible to evaluate actual gameplay. Only mentions of nostalgia suggest the underlying game might have had appeal, but the broken launcher and poor release setup make it inaccessible to modern players.

Can't even start up the actual game. Just stuck on the boot up menu. Who cares anyway this game looks way too old.

NEVER RECOMMENDED - it comes with a COMPLETELY UNCONFIGURED DOSBOX SETUP. That means you will have to painstakingly convert your long Steam directory path into a 8+3 one (the DOSBOX it comes with does not support long file names), mount it, change to it, INSTALL it (it will not start unless you run the configuration / setup thing bundled with the installer at least once) and THEN you can start the game without it being a black screen. Piko WTF, man. Why did you not do this stuff so that it would be playable out of the box? Every other developers have none of these issues. Set your stuff up. I have played so many GOG DOSBox games that set their stuff up right that it is surprisingly that there is someone who fails to do the same. Failing at the finish line like this is so disappointing and... wait a minute - why am I expecting Piko to NOT MESS IT UP? Never mind that. The game itself is a generic overly-cryptic where-do-I-go style platformer not-unlike Dorke and Ymp. The music is okay and the high stabbing speed is ridiculous. Nothing to write home about. I got this for pennies from Fanatical. That is the fate of most of these Piko releases. LMAO P.S. To set the path to your game…

I legitimately cannot even review the gameplay of this game as the game itself doesn't even work. It throws you a popup and some stuff, where I believe it wants you to set up a bunch of things so that you can play the game. I gave it a bit of time to try to set up, but honestly it isn't even worth the time. This is an abandoned game that you cannot even play anymore, so don't bother picking it up (even if you have nostalgia).

Prophecy I: The Viking Child is a faithful revival of a classic side-scrolling platformer that captures the spirit of early 1990s action games while making it available for a modern audience. Originally developed by Imagitec and published on Steam by Piko Interactive LLC and Bleem!, the game places players in the role of a courageous young Viking whose peaceful homeland is thrown into chaos after the trickster god Loki kidnaps his loved ones and imprisons them in Valhalla. With its Norse mythology theme, colorful presentation, and straightforward heroic quest, the game embraces a timeless fantasy adventure that values exploration, determination, and classic arcade-style gameplay over cinematic storytelling. The campaign spans sixteen levels that gradually introduce new environments, enemies, and platforming challenges. Players journey through castles, mountains, and other imaginative landscapes inspired by Viking legends, ensuring that each stage offers its own visual identity. Progress depends on careful jumping, enemy encounters, and discovering useful resources hidden throughout the levels. While the overall design follows the traditional formula of classic platformers, the cha…

The viking child with a foam sword. Built as a dusty relic that escaped straight out of the apocalyptic abandoned age of dos.
