This is an emulated version of the Genesis/Mega Drive game Gadget Twins. The emulator being used is Mednafen, which is generally not one of the better emulators for the Genesis, but it seems to do a decent enough job for this particular game. At least through stage 2 (out of 6), I haven't encountered any noticeable problems yet. Piko hasn't included the original manual with this release, and I couldn't find a scanned copy anywhere online, but you can get brief instructions at Sega Retro Even though Gadget Twins came out in 1992, it's a pretty unique game even today. It's basically a shoot 'em up, except both you and the enemies mostly use melee attacks instead of projectiles. You can attack in any of the four primary directions, which you can rotate between by pressing a button or key. All enemies drop coins, which are used in mid-level shops to buy basic upgrades for your weapons. There are also temporary power-ups that can be found by breaking open chests along the way. As you can probably guess by the title, this game was designed to be played wi…

The Gadget Twins is an ancient console ported game from 1992. It's a whopping 31 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. This thing is so ancient it was ported from the Sega Mega Drive, Sega's first and somewhat short lived excursion into the console gaming market. As far as Sega Mega Drive games go, this one is truly garbage. The entire thing is a train wreck. Thematically... you're controlling a cartoon airplane that goes underwater and punches things. What were they smoking at Sega when they gave this the green light? But the incredibly stupid theme aside, it's the actual gameplay that makes this the worst trash from a long forgotten console. It's like a platformer on rails, and your primary gameplay loop is to choose which direction to punch in (you can only punch in one direction), and then use your very…

This was my first shmup and it fostered a lifelong love for the genre. It's pretty dated and janky by today's standards but it remains one of the most unique titles out there. I dream that this game is one day remade in the Cuphead style.

First off ignore the idiot with the super lengthy review s/he is full of ♥♥♥♥. This game takes me back, and is as good as I remember. Surprisingly it plays as well as it did on genesis when I was a kid. Sound and all. It is a faithful port and functions exactly as it did 30+ years ago. That being said, the game is exactly what you expect for a 30 year old game and not a remake. For a 30 year old game though, it runs extremely well, and is not a glitch mess the long reviewer suggests. Art style to me is a hit, though its CLEARLY an old ass game. Animations really give away the age of this game. Music is.. ehhh.... Gadget twins is a 2d on rail shooter, except you have weapons with varying melee range, very few equipment gives you range. Learning how your weapons work and careful positioning is key as you get punished for getting hit, but it never feels unfair. That being said, the game is pretty easy with pretty much any load out. This is not Dark Souls, boss patterns are extremely predictable, its a fun little ride. Great for a quick run, takes an hour to beat. Cant say its worth $10 bucks though (max id pay is $2-3). Get it on sale, I got it for 99 cents. Coop is great too.…

This game is part of my childhood and it's great to revisit it. That said, I wish they had added alternate controls, because the controls are ROUGH! You can attack in the 4 cardinal direction but to switch direction, there is a single button that switches the direction 90 degrees clockwise. So if you punch and enemy below you then want to punch an enemy to the right, you have to mash the button 3 times! Now, when they were limited to the Genesis controller, with a whole 3 non-movement buttons, they didn't have a lot of options, but this game would be sooooo much better with WASD to move and the arrow keys just attack in that direction.
