About Argumentum ad culpam

In a world where great powers can easily manifest in material form and contracts can bestow magnificent magical powers, you can become a wizard without any effort. However, what price must you pay for it?

A wizard has discovered that the power granted him by the mighty Duke Luthedor is fading, while the Duke's body is nothing but an empty shell. Will he be skilled enough to regain the magic? Will he want it back?

Argumentum ad culpam will present a gothic world of magic and supernatural beings called transcendents. Each of these beings wants to carry out their plans for Luthedor's future. The game's core is battles of wits, where the wizard can support any side with his own reasoning, trying to get the best position for himself. But what his best is, that's for you to decide.

Game features:
- A truly unique story about a decadent world that will be very happy being slaughtered with your hands and mind.
- Whimsical characters with twisted logic.
- A choice system based on the "battle of wits". The wizard's and his lord's fates will be decided on the battlefield, where you must fight as hard as you can.
- High stakes - EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, including the wizard, MAY DIE AS A RESULT OF BATTLES.
- 13 meaningful endings.
- More than 10 live piano soundtracks, which will emphasize the gothic atmosphere of the novel even more.

Argumentum ad culpam is a Gothic visual novel set in a world of eternal agony and despair. Be an observer and a judge to a battle of wits that will ultimately determine the outcome of what will be for all.
The Story
In a Gothic world of magic and magnificent powers you, a wizard, stand as a witness and judge to three transcendents, very powerful supernatural beings, as they each battle for the fate of the now falling Duke Luthedor. Along with the approaching ultimate demise of the Duke, you Luftschlösser, also find the contract you had with the Duke that grants you magical abilities, is also fading. Will you partake in the game yourself to try to save your own powers? The battles are fought in a choice system through a “battle of wits”. A high stakes game where anyone can die, including yourself.
Game-play
Now the game itself is more of a kinetic novel than a game. You do have some choices as to how the end plays out but your actual choices are few and far between. The majority of this novel is reading. The first act of the story might be hard for some to follow in terms of language (or flow of it). The common language is sprinkled quite h…

This, I'm afraid, failed to hook me. The first battle is good - it's possible to follow the arguments and everyone's motivation is (somewhat) clear. After that, though, the story takes a nosedive. You get dumped with lore you've been given no reason to care about... since it's mostly about characters you've heard literally nothing about up to that point. The other battles become too abstract and conceptual to the point where it just doesn't seem worth it to even try and follow the logic. The frequent grammar errors don't help.

Hm...what a curious project, however. When I saw on the cover of this game a creature similar to Zoot from "My Favorite Martian" who was put bread on his head, I didn't even know what to think. And as a result, it turned out to be an unusual and interesting novel, more like a book due to the huge amount of complex and confusing scenario text. It's not going to work just like that, you need to carefully read through to understand what's going on and who all these characters are, by the way... Well, I haven't seen such a psychedelic surreal character design for a long time, very strange, but at the same time curious and original. As for the gameplay, the game resembles something like Phoenix Wright, but not quite, it's something like a "second in a duel" who decides who is to blame and who is not, and instead of pistols he has "arguments", it is with their help that he helps to resolve disputes. (an example of how to solve conflicts, instead of killing each other, for this respect and respect to the authors, I like this philosophy ^_^) I will not spoil the plot, I will only say that it is a complicated detective story that you will not immediately understand, but it is worth it. A…

Argumentum ad culpam is a narrative-driven visual novel developed by Tagetes Team in collaboration with TellerySpyro_GTX and published by Tagetes Team. The game presents itself as a dark philosophical drama set in a surreal world where ideological conflict and moral reasoning take center stage. Instead of traditional gameplay elements such as combat systems, puzzles, or exploration mechanics, the experience focuses almost entirely on storytelling and dialogue. Through branching conversations and meaningful player decisions, the game explores questions of morality, power, and responsibility in a mysterious universe inhabited by supernatural beings. The title itself hints at the intellectual themes running through the story. “Argumentum ad culpam,” a phrase referencing blame-based reasoning in logic, reflects the game’s central idea: characters attempt to justify their beliefs, actions, and ambitions through arguments that challenge both the protagonist and the player. Much of the gameplay revolves around navigating these ideological debates, deciding which arguments to trust, and determining how the fate of the world should unfold. In many ways, the game resembles an interactive ph…

The game's world is immersive and full of intriguing characters. The backstory gets unraveled in battles of logic fought by the aspects of one's personality and you need to reach all endings to understand the full story.
