Players appreciate Close Order's ambitious concept of merging space shooter mechanics with squad-building strategy and praise its soundtrack, but criticize its execution on multiple fronts including poor UI scaling at high resolutions, clunky controls limited to four-directional movement, bland level design, and overall lack of polish. The game is also noted as being quite short and relatively easy once mechanics are understood, with some finding it underwhelming despite the interesting core premise.
Game can't even properly resize its HUD to resolutions higher than 1080p. With a heavy heart I had to decline the opportunity to undertake the grim task of saving this particular gaming universe. Better luck next big bang.15 found this helpful
You're the horde, everyone fear the horde. Generally speaking build your squadron and get to designated place on the map. Various missions where most of them contain this type of gameplay. You can buy more troops which fly around your ship in specific formation. Soundtrack is great but who cares when the gameplay is not. Enemy's ships are hard to hit with super slow projectiles. Controls are not the best and you can move only in four directions (kinda like a flat space). Levels are mostly empty with few asteroids floating around and some flying structures. To be honest I was expecting a lot more from this one, while checking the store idea seemed interesting enough to make be bought this one. Unfortunately I was mistaken.
12 found this helpful
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…3 found this helpful
The idea of Close Order, as near as I can tell: Grind up until you can build up an ungodly armada of wingmen of many types. The execution: Well, there's only 8 stages, so after a bit of bashing my head against the first stage until I figured out how best to shoot down entire fleets, I won in under an hour just by going through all the stages in order quickly. It's a neat concept, but it's kind of an ugly game, not very difficult once you understand what it wants from you, and very short once you get going. Maybe someday I'll play a version of this - a shooter where you build up either a custom super-ship or a fleet - that I actually enjoy, but so far every one I've played has been extremely flawed, and Close Order is no exception. Not recommended for anyone, really. (After winning, I noticed I only had one of the cards, so I left it idling while I went to sleep, hence the longer time played according to Steam. But I did finish the game in 59 minutes.)2 found this helpful
Close Order, developed and published by Raconteur Games, is a small but ambitious indie title that reimagines the classic space shooter by adding an unexpected layer of strategy and squad management. Instead of controlling a single ship through endless waves of enemies, the player commands a growing armada, evolving from a lone fighter into a coordinated fleet capable of unleashing synchronized attacks. It’s a bold attempt to merge the twitch reflexes of an arcade shooter with the tactical depth of a strategy game, and while it doesn’t always deliver on its potential, it offers an interesting and creative twist on a familiar genre. The story places the player in the remnants of a shattered humanity, piloting a ship in the aftermath of Earth’s destruction. You control a small team of survivors—Mary, Abe, and Chakor—who set out on a mission to find what remains of civilization and resist the threats that roam the stars. The narrative unfolds between missions through simple dialogue and static cutscenes, offering context but never overstaying its welcome. The game doesn’t rely heavily on storytelling; instead, it focuses on atmosphere and mechanics. The sparse narrative design suits …1 found this helpful
This game is too complex for my understanding and I hate it when I mute the sound to farm trading cards quietly and the next time I launch the game the music starts blasting.1 found this helpful
