About Frayed Knights: The Skull of S'makh-Daon

Frayed Knights: The Skull of S'makh-Daon is a 3D indie computer RPG for Windows featuring turn-based combat, old-school sensibilities, and a story of high adventure and comedy. Who says RPGs have to be so serious?

In a world of jaded heroes and veteran adventurers, you play a team of misfits: Arianna, a dainty warrior with an attitude problem; Dirk, an adrenaline-junky rogue who doesn’t seem to understand the word ‘subtle;’ Benjamin, a nature-priest and an ill-suited newcomer to the adventuring lifestyle, and Chloe, a ditsy sorceress with a love of cute, fuzzy animals and setting her enemies on fire.

Adventuring is always a dangerous profession, but recently things have gotten bad. Very bad. Teams of expert fortune-hunters are getting "morted," suffering great losses against enemies that are better prepared than ever. In the taverns and Adventurer's Guildhalls, whispered rumors speak of the return of an evil that once all but destroyed civilization. But as many great and famous adventurers fall to this growing threat, perhaps this bunch of losers - called "The Frayed Knights" (but never to their faces) - might just be the heroes the world really needs:

The wrong people at the wrong time.

Features:
 • 30+ hours of gameplay.
 • Challenging, turn-based combat in a game that plays at your pace.
 • A unique "Drama Star" system that rewards the player for playing through tough situations instead of reloading and replaying.
 • A spell named, "Power Word: Defenestrate."
 • Over a hundred base spells, most with several upgraded variants.
 • An innovative trap-disarming / lockpicking system using character skills and items to disable a device one component at a time.
 • Over 80 feats to customize your party as they progress through the game.
 • A detailed, "stats-heavy" rules system... which you are free to ignore if you choose.
 • Nearly 200 different items to be used and abused by your characters.
 • A "Quarterstaff of Nad-Whacking."
 • Sixteen "dungeons" (interior adventuring areas), five outdoor areas, one village, an alternate dimension, and some green dude's one-room hovel.
 • A THICK (virtually) 69-page PDF manual. For those who want more than just the tutorials...
“Well, if there's one thing I've learned, it's this: never pay more than 20 dollars for a computer game.” ~Guybrush Threepwood
So, here's a question for you, guys. Did you like games like Might & Magic VI, Wizardry 8 and Wizards & Warriors? Well, this game is nothing like those. Only it is. In a way. See, Frayed Knights is a parody game. But it looks so old school that it's really hard not to love it. Well, at least for the old farts like yours truly. Because modern kids? They'll probably feel like the game is plain ugly. But for those who remember the games above? It'll be a nice little surprise. Don't expect any depth here, though. What we have here is a pretty small and limited experience that ends with a cliffhanger (it's really, really sad that sequel never happened). We have four pre-made characters who'll often say cheesy jokes, we have dungeons to explore, chests to loot and bosses to kill. Also, a lot of traps to kill you. You know... all the fun and adventurous... stuff. After all, the good adventurer is a dea... wait, that's from my evil manifesto. Forget you've read that. Anyway, that's pretty much it. Like I've said,…

I quite enjoyed my time with this game, and I will recommend it to those who enjoy a free roaming turn based "dungeon" crawler which doesn't take itself seriously at all. - The combat mechanics are very reminiscent of DND, with feats/skills/"metamagic" - The humour isn't too much, at worst no reaction from me, at best a good chuckle. Party banter is alright too. - The stars mechanic is dope! Really encourages you not to save scum/reload and just go with it - The exhaustion mechanic is also good - that way you don't just spam rest and since walking back to the village takes some time I'd rather be more cautious in my combat encounters. This coupled with the star mechanic works great.
Love RPG? Make sure to Follow my Curator Page for plenty more!
A very unique comedy cRPG in Might and Magic style. Despite the humor, the game is difficult. Hilarious dialogues, funny quests and an unforgettable adventure are waiting for you. For fans of the old school, just a must have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-1aWXV3ryM
And don't forget to Subscribe to my Youtube

Join my Steam Group
Had a lot of fun with this game, the environments are handmade and that makes everywhere fun to explore. There's a real feeling of setting off on long arduous and daring adventures with the party and seeing when it's the right time to retreat to the cozy town inn. I thought the balancing (the way I was playing) was perfect: I got almost completely wiped multiple times but just about clinched it in time. It's also quite funny. Not massively so but very workable and pleasant as entertainment. It's not perfect, as others have pointed out. The UI isn't great and I'm still hoping some day to see a part two to this game that fixes some of those faults. The travel distances being long wasn't a problem for me since I thought it was part of the "adventuring" that goes away if there isn't any long trudges.

There are a few issues I'm having with the UI that are driving me up the wall. I'm not exactly sure if I'm going to keep playing the game due to these. (1.2 hours at the time of this writing). 1) When you click on a menu your mouse teleports to where the dev thinks you'd want it. When you're done the mouse teleports back to where it was before you were in the menu. This is just like a micro annoyance that builds up over time and makes me never want to look at my inventory/character screen etc. 2) I have 20/20 vision but I cannot get the text at any resolution to not hurt to read. I *can* read everything but it just seems like WORK to do it and I can't quite put my finger on why I hate reading the manual so much. Also, the game refers you to a paper manual for some things which of course you don't have. 3) There are a LOT of spells and feats that you can use in battle. Here's how to cast one. Click the spell button, click spells, click the level range of the spell, click the spell, click 0-3 times to find your target, click cast spell. If you have a spell on one of the three quick cast buttons then you can reduce the amount of clicks you need down to 3-6. Given that 2 of your…

This is an retro 3D dungeon crawler RPG aping earlier games like Might and Magic, but with a comedy theme. To fit the comedy dialogue properly, you don't get to build your own characters. Explore the temple of the pimple god or something. The whole thing fits together in a very clunky way. Retro RPGs can be done well, Legend of Grimrock is a good example, but the implementation here falls flat. The developers seem to have retained everything that was clunky about old school RPGs, and didn't improve on any of it. If they could have kept what worked and modernised the things that didn't, this might have had a chance, but it falls short of the mark. Graphics are mediocre, controls are painful. Also, the writing is pretty bad and I cringed through the forced dialogue.
