About Jim Power -The Lost Dimension

Special Agent Jim Power-The supernatural alien, Vaprak, threatens to defeat our world which is the last planet that stands between him and a dimensional vortex. This vortex leads to a fifth and, up until now, lost dimension. If he succeeds in defeating us, he will destroy our world, opening a gateway for his kind as well as the strange mutating effect that this dimension has on all organic life forms. His forces are far too strong for us to defeat in a frontal attack which is why we must send you to slip past his Omni-eye scanners and make an assassination attempt on the greatest evil that man has ever known. It will take absolutely all of your wits and skill but it is imperative you reach his fortress and send him back to the sulphurous plane from whence he came.
When comparing this game to dongo (dog's feces) or in this case bad game, it doesn't smell that much. Music will play on your eardrums making them hurt. Visuals are colorful and level design have some charm however many platforms in the game are hard to distinguish from background which result in falling often into spikes, but after a while you develop some sort of intuition on where you can land safely and where deadly. Jim Powah is classic game from SNES or DOS, that's why it run on DOSbox. As most classic games from the 90s it have some great value as it's one of the first that try new things in 2D platforming so take note 1993, you just can't go back to the past unless... Overall ok side scrolling platformer with a bit of downsides but generally playable, it's working.
These have been fixed up and improved over the original games. You get 4 with each being pretty different. PC version looks the best and I don't think it was changed but its good to see what it was like. Sega version started as an unfinished prototype that they finished. Snes version they made the backgrounds scroll normally as it was supposed to have a 3d effect with darkened glasses but the effect could be annoying originally. NES version is a new game that plays better than the old ones with graphics you would see from a late NES game. Very good effort for the work they did to improve those games. You can run then on a flash cart, just go into the game folder and you will see the roms.

Jim Power -The Lost Dimension is an ancient game from 1993. It's a whopping 30 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge. This is really a poor "me too" platformer that failed to capture any attention from gamers even back in 1993... remember, PC gamers were enjoying games like DooM and Wing Commander back then... these guys were trying to push 2D platforming in the 3D renaissance... what a joke! No wonder this was a failure back then. This game is so old it runs in DOSBOX and doesn't take advantage of hardware acceleration. It has a dated control scheme, dated graphics, and runs poorly due to the DOSBOX emulation. While DOSBOX is a fine tool for those seeking retro gaming, it's not really appropriate for ancient abandonware like this to be dumped on Steam without any modernisation, this is just a greedy cash grab from developers trying to get your money for dead …

7 / 10 Been mucking around with the different versions this title presents (DOS, SNES, and the previously unreleased Mega Drive & NES versions). All of them have their perks and drawbacks. Bit of a shame it didn't have the very original Amiga version (known as Mutant Planet, which has a really nice graphical style different to this one and a few gameplay differences). I really hope Piko make a brand new version combining the best elements of all of the versions because I think something can be done with this. As it is, not an amazing title, but I did moderately enjoy mucking around with the Mega Drive and NES version, particularly. Only worth it on a discount and on a rainy day.
