It's like a really, really boring Metroid with terrible music.1 found this helpful
Some of the worst boss designs ever this is garbage1 found this helpful
I enjoyed Axiom Verge. It is a very retro style Metroidvania with a labyrinth to explore that is very reminiscent of the NES Metroid. I completed the game on hard mode and died a lot. The enemies can be quite challenging but one of the features of the game is that you can "glitch" them. When you glitch enemies, most become easier to kill but some can be used to your advantage to find hidden items and paths. The boss fights are okay. They can be challenging in the early game but some of the weapons and the amount of health you can get make the later fights really easy. I can see the later fights being more challenging if you do a low percentage run. I got all the items. Some of the hidden items blend into the world very well and can easily be missed. I had to use a guide at the very end to get the few I missed. You also come across some "glitched" maps that include bonus items. You get a variety of weapons to play with. Some of them are very useful for dealing with tough enemies. You get a power up which lets you glitch enemies and traverse the world which I thought was very cool and fun to mess with. There are also health nodes to increase health and power nodes to make you more…
TL:DR- Fine, but clunky game with amazing art. Get it on sale. Preface: I beat the game on hard mode at ~85% total completion. This was a blind playthrough. Pros: * The art, lore, and music are amazing * The game's unique mechanics are very cool thematically, but only mildly fun mechanically * Game length felt fine for the price and the game didn't wear out its welcome. * Level design is... good. Just good. Hidden item placement was very well done, although 100%ing the game without a guide sounds like hell, which I guess is appropriate for these kinds of retro games Mids: * While the different guns you can get are varied enough, I never felt the need to use more than one or two, with only a few enemy types and bosses wanting a specific weapon to kill them quickly/safely. The weapons that have unique mechanics can be useful, but most of them are just "shoot bullets in a different pattern with less dps than the starting weapon". * The controls are... fine. The free aiming system felt very clunky, and there were a lot of times when I was holding down the button and it just wouldn't activate. Maybe a controller problem, but unsure, as I haven't had similar issues in other games. Do…
Keeps my computer from crashing when I run it in the background 10/10
pretty unique and fun, the weapons felt a bit shallow and quickly got replaced by other weapons tho. I enjoyed it, would recommend, also really cool story
