About Leopoldo Manquiseil

The videogame industry is in danger!

A dishonest organization (A.M.E.) has set out to monopolize the industry and thus control the minds of the players. Developers and distributors have two options: either they take their side or else the market will end up crushing them.

The freedom of creation has disappeared and only small independent studios seem to offer a small resistance.

Our hero? He is none other than the great David Sant... Sorry, we cannot reveal his identity for now. He calls himself "Leopoldo Manquiseil".

After the exploitation and stress he is under during his daily work at Badland Games, Leopoldo suffers a strange accident when he arrives home. When he wakes up he feels different than usual, he feels stronger. He feels like... He has super powers!
Destiny already seems to have its own "chosen", so now you be the one to put yourself in Leopoldo's shoes: jump, climb, shoot... Do whatever it takes to get our hero to bring peace and we can be one step closer to the second Golden Age for the industry in the Spanish region!
But don't worry, Leopoldo Manquiseil won't be alone in his adventure: he'll count on the support and help of big industry characters like "Gonzo" Suarez, Luis Quintans, Sara Borondo, Bruno Sol, Ramón Nafria or Santi Valero, from Video games for food.

● ● ●

“Leopoldo Manquiseil: A new super hero is coming” is a small tribute to one of the biggest names in the Spanish videogame industry: David Santos.

Vanir Project, creators of Nightmare Boy, are behind the development of the title, a classic 2D platformer, with a remarkable retro aesthetics and a chiptune soundtrack created by Vic Hernand.

Leopoldo Manquiseil is a game with a charity side: 75% of the income obtained will go to David Santos.

Leopoldo Manquiseil is an action platformer split into 24 levels with a lot of gameplay mechanics:
• Jump, double jump, dash, climb walls, shoot...
• Special levels in Flappy Bird and Pang style.
• Two challenge levels: one simpler is just to reach the end of the level. Another harder way to play will force you to do the above and ALSO get three unique items that will be spread among each level.
• The 24 levels are structured in three groups of 8. The last level of each group is always a final boss.

A challenging yet fair platformer with around 3-4 hours of content. Levels consist mostly of environmental hazards like spikes and rotating platforms instead of enemies. The only major blemish is that there are a few lines of text in the game that weren't properly translated into English, but it's not a plot driven game.

Guys, I highly recommend you to pay attention to the Vanir Project. I first met this company while playing Nightmare Boy (ps4) and immediately fell in love with what they do. I am very surprised by the mixed reviews for NB, and after reading them, I realized that these people did not go through it and did not leave the starting locations. Speaking about their games, I can say that there is an excellent balance and a very pleasant difficulty, the graphics indicate a unique style that cannot be confused with anything. Having played these games, I became confident that talented developers work in the studio. It seems that these people clearly love what they do. I'm really looking forward to the next project and a big hello to the team and Victor! Thank you so much for the great games! I definitely recommend everyone Leopoldo Manquiseil and Nightmare Boy.

Leopoldo Manquisel falls flat on its face because of the extremely finicky controls. The jumps are extremely high, so your main concern is to not accidentally headbutt into an enemy. The collision detection is suffering for large hitboxes. If you stand close to an enemy your shots litterally go right through him. It is next to impossible to jump+dash over hazards in a narrow corridor with a low ceiling (this is mainly an issue when using a controller). And on and on it goes with unfair deaths. Oh, I almost forgot, 'shoot' and 'dash' are reversed from their conventional position on the controller. After dying at least 20 times in a row in level 2-5 on the same simple hazard I gave up on Leopoldo - not a rage quit, just a very disappointing gaming experience. This should have been a platformer where you can dash through the levels trying to achieve a fast run, but instead it felt like I was a cripled invalid stumbling through the levels getting killed over and over by simple hazards. The game certainly has potential, because the graphics look nice and the levels in principle are well designed. It is just that getting through each level is such a chore because of difficulties with t…
