About Moebius: Empire Rising
This thrilling new adventure game from master storyteller Jane Jensen (Gabriel Knight, Gray Matter) and Phoenix Online Studios (Cognition, The Silver Lining) introduces Malachi Rector, an expert in antiquities whose photographic memory and eye for detail transform people and clues into interactive puzzles.
When a secretive government agency enlists him to determine whether a murdered woman in Venice resembles any particular historical figure, Malachi is left with only questions. Why would the U.S. government hire him -- a dealer of high-end antiques -- to look into a foreign murder? Why does David Walker, a former Special Forces operative he meets in his travels, feel like someone Malachi’s known all his life? And how come every time Malachi lets his guard down, someone tries to kill him?
Moebius: Empire Rising is a contemporary adventure that merges classic point-and-click puzzle solving with Jane Jensen’s sophisticated storytelling. Travel the world using Malachi’s unique deductive powers to analyze suspects, make historical connections, and uncover the truth behind a theory of space and time the government will defend at any cost.

✦ AI summary
Players praise the engaging story, clever puzzle design, and strong voice acting reminiscent of classic adventure games like Gabriel Knight, with the unique character evaluation mechanic drawing particular interest. However, common complaints include slow pacing with unnecessary backtracking, clunky interface limitations, occasional technical bugs, and dialogue that may feel dated or culturally narrow to modern audiences.
A fascinating cocktail of historical mystery, conspiracy, and murder, held back by awkward animation and flat direction. It has the soul of a fine wine, unfortunately served in a plastic cup.12 found this helpful
Excellent game, very intriguing story, wish there were more like these!1 found this helpful
Very nice adventure game with a point system for advancing the story which reminded me of the old Gabriel Knight games (which we also enjoyed). Great voice acting and interesting characters with an unusual premise and a rather unique game mechanic where you evaluate current and historical characters. If you liked the previous Jane Jensen games, you are sure to like this one too. Recommended 9/10.
12 years later and I realised there are two things I remember of this game: 1- The game got stuck towards the end of the game and had to contact the studio and be advised to disable/amend a certain software on my PC to progress, which then I did and were able to finish the game. 2- Unless you are a suburban feller in 90's rural USA, there aren't many ways to immerse yourself in the plot, dialogs or writing on this one without rolling your eyes 360 degrees every time someone starts talking. And I've visited Munich and Schloss Neuschwanstein because of Gabriel Knight - The Beast Within.
It's a decent point click advenutre game albeit a bit clunky and has limitations. It has some interesting puzzles but it has some midly boring ones too where you have to match things. If you like a reasonably interesting story then pick this up at a discount.
Recommended, with reservations I enjoyed Moebius: Empire Rising, but this is a game that demands patience. Many actions unfold very slowly, and the game often refuses to let Malachi pick up items proactively. Instead, you’re forced into unnecessary backtracking when an object suddenly becomes relevant. It feels less like classic adventure design and more like artificial time padding. That said, anyone used to old-school adventure games will recognize this rhythm: slow, methodical, detail-oriented. If you come in expecting modern pacing, frustration is likely; if you come prepared to observe and absorb, it’s manageable. The story clearly carries Jane Jensen’s DNA — conspiratorial, intellectual, and rooted in real-world concepts. The game borrows names, theories, and references (including the Möbius strip itself) not to present hard science, but to create a sense of plausible intellectual depth. It works as atmosphere and thematic texture, not as something to be taken academically. Unfortunately, some narrative beats and gameplay loops do become repetitive, which weakens the overall impact. The graphics are very dated, but that didn’t bother me — I value story over visuals, and…
