About Stories From the Cores
Deep beneath the ocean floor, what discoveries are possible? Join
science bot Rovee on 3 expeditions with the International Ocean
Discovery Project. Drill core samples from below the ocean floor,
compare the layers, investigate hypotheses, and piece together
dramatic stories of life on Earth.
Stores from the Cores is a suite of 3 single-player mini games about
deep ocean core science. The games feature multiple choice questions,
exploring 3D environments with science bot Rovee via point and
click controls. Collecting mineral samples for scientific research, and
matching games that all teach players about deep ocean core science.

Mysteries of the Core
Why are bits of land plants found in cores drilled from
under the sea floor far from shore?

Deep Dark Life
How are microbes able to live inside rocks hundreds of feet below
the sea floor? Find out what the Center for Dark Energy Biosphere Investigations
has discovered.

What do dinosaurs and plankton have in common? What happened
on Earth when dinosaurs, plankton and lots of other life went extinct?

"Stories From the Cores" is a small educational game intended to teach gamers about the ocean floor... believe it or not I've seen worse ideas for games. In this game you do a few minigame type activities and read some text about what's in various ocean core drill samples. There's some quiz questions, sample collecting... it might be interesting for younger kids. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. This is a short educational game about core sampling from the ocean floor. It's very accurate to real world science using real world locations and even vessels like the JOIDES Resolution as the center for all of your activities. The graphics are cutting edge, but the information is presented in a fun and interactive manner, which lets even adults walks away with a bit of knowledge that they might not have had before. The game consists of three chapters, each of which takes about ten minutes or so to get through. There is a discussion on the topic at hand, and some light puzzles and quizzes to challenge the player. My only gripe is that some times ROV-33, your robotic helper, is standing in front of the answer button you want to press and you have to wait for it to move. Overall, this is a fine little freebie that I think could get a lot of use at schools or parents playing it with their kids. Again, the science is not dumbed down, but instead doled out in a way that any age group can understand and learn from, making it a fun family experience.2 found this helpful

This game was so informative and well done- kudos to you guys! I enjoyed it very much and learned alot about the past. I can't recommend this game enough especially if you're interested in dinosaurs.
