About Tempest 4000

Tempest 4000™ is a visually stunning, action-packed tube shooter based on the classic hit arcade game, Tempest™.  Developed by legendary game designer, Jeff Minter, Tempest 4000™ remains faithful to the original fast-paced gameplay by putting you in control of the Claw, a powerful spacecraft equipped to destroy deadly creatures and other obstructions with rapid-fire shots on vibrant geometric prisms.

Featuring fantastical graphical environments, 100 levels, three game modes, and more, you must eliminate all enemies as fast as possible to survive and compete for the highest score on the leaderboards.

Tempest 4000 is a fantastic conclusion to Llamasoft’s work on the games and easily holds its place amidst the classics of Atari’s flagship arcade series.. Hardcore Gamer

EAT ELECTRIC DEATH!!!!! This game certainly isn't for everyone (especially if you have epilepsy, lol) but as someone who's a huge fan of Tempest and has played dozens of hours of Tempest 2000, I can assure you most of the negative reviews here are either 40-year-old men who were expecting a remake of the original arcade version, or reviews made in 2018 on launch day. This game is amazing. I bought it yesterday and have already gotten to level 35. Achievement hunting in this game is fun, and both gamemodes are fun as well. The only issue I have is the fact that, when first setting up the game, it's super buggy. But if you can get past that, this game is the best Llamasoft game and one of the best in the Tempest series.

I expected the ice physics to make this way worse than it is it's actually pretty decent. I think 2000's still better but I'm still having a lot of fun.

Tempest 4000 demonstrates that some arcade concepts never truly age. Developed by Llamasoft Ltd. and published by Atari, this modern interpretation of the legendary Tempest series embraces its roots while enhancing them with contemporary effects and an unmistakable audiovisual identity. Rather than attempting to transform itself into a sprawling modern action game, Tempest 4000 remains committed to the arcade philosophy of immediate engagement, challenging gameplay, and endless replayability. From the moment players take control of the Claw and begin navigating the edges of glowing geometric structures, the game establishes itself as an unapologetic tribute to an era when high scores and reflexes were all that mattered. The gameplay loop is elegantly simple but surprisingly demanding. Players travel around the perimeter of various three-dimensional webs, eliminating enemies as they emerge from the depths and climb toward the surface. The title features 100 levels, each introducing increasingly aggressive enemy patterns and greater visual complexity. Along the way, players collect power-ups that provide temporary advantages, including rapid-fire attacks, enhanced movement capabilit…

Never played any Tempest game before. Always thought 2000 looked cool in the AVGN Jaguar episode; finally searched for it on Steam and found this on sale instead. Not sure what some of the negative reviews are on about, this is awesome! Runs fine for me and is perfectly playable on controller. You'll know in the first five seconds of gameplay and soundtrack if you'll like it or not. Same kind of hyper-stimulating arcade game as Hotline Miami, Furi, or F-Zero GX. Exhausting to play for more than an hour, but puts you in that lovely trance where you're moving on pure instinct. Admittedly I had to consult a guide at first just to understand what the hell is going on. Leaning, braking with LT, etc. are very important and not explained well in-game. Even the basics of the gameplay loop were initially hard to understand in all the chaos. But this was only a problem once. Grab on sale and zone out for a bit. Good headphones recommended.
