X-teroids

Simply put, this is an asteroid shooter with a very small roguelite twist. The goal is to last 10 minutes and score as many points as possible. It is played with a mouse, and everything is controlled by a single button. Simply aim and hold the left mouse button to move and fire in that direction. If you wish to concentrate just on movement, there is an auto-fire option. Unfortunately, you have no control over speed that increases as you move in the same direction. In contrast to similar games, you gain new weapons but not perks. Also, weapons only last for a few seconds. Wider shoots, bullets that disappear on the edge of the screen and reappear on the other side, larger bullets, and so on, emerge at random from shattered asteroids. You also need to destroy a rare spaceship that lets you choose between three perks. This is important because asteroid drops depend on what you choose. If you don’t select something new, it won’t show up. Everything you unlock has the same chance of showing up. To feel rewarding, the game unlocks a new song as you hit a new points milestone throughout a run. There are also two skins, which transform the usual black and white aesthetics into a more c…

This game is dope! As asteroids games go the mechanics (continued momentum, the acceleration, the screen edges behavior..) work well, as they should.. some asteroids type games get these things wrong so it’s worth mentioning that it’s right. The shooting mechanic is neat because you shoot in the direction of movement as you move.. so you can’t sit still, and you can get too close to ships that take multiple hits to take down. The power ups are random drops but the library of possible random power ups is increased with every choice you make, so there’s some strategy in the choices you make along the way. Then there are score based unlockable themes which change the look of of the game for the player character, asteroids enemy ships, and background. Also there’s a friends score list and player rank. So it’s dope, all for less than a buck.

A very easy yet decently fun game that goes for pretty cheap and can sometimes be even cheaper. What you see is what you get. Better than Stranded.

honestly pretty addictive unique take on asteroids, it would definitely benefit from a classic mode where you could shoot w o having to move simultaneously but for what it is, it's great for short sessions.
