"This Game Might Improve Your Memory" is a godawfully bad "game" kitbashed out of the Adventure Game Studio construction kit, primarily designed to make ripoffs of Secret of Monkey Island. This kitbash is considerably worse than the old 1990's point and clickers. If you think you're going to get Hero Quest, you're not. This is an "experimental" (means: garbage tech demo) where you click around some stuff. It doesn't really teach you any memory skills, it's just a trash pseudo-intellectual fan-fiction. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." So you'll spend a huge amount of time not playing the game, but clicking through endless lines of poorly written VN text cutscenes because the developers couldn't work out how to relate their narrative through the game mechanics, and decided instead it would be better to compete with reading a book for your time. the pacing is terrible, and the memory games interrupt the story, like they're not well integrated into the plot. some of the cut scenes are just so damn slow, and they don't need to be, we don't need that much pause in between speaking lines. just a really clunky game, but it's not half bad if you're just focused on the memory games rather than the plot of the game. unfortunately, I probably have one of those brains that just can't find an iota of sense in the "memory tricks" the mini games are built around, and ended up boredom quitting. (also why is the resolution so tiny??)

This game actually teaches working memory techniques in a very practical way without any fluff. One would pay hundreds of dollars for memory training courses to get similar material. Despite knowing and using the techniques, I’ve still learned something new. My only regret is that I didn’t find such a game when I was 12. School would have been so much easier. It is quite sad to see such a work of art without many players and reviews. Maybe it was because of the unnecessary childish humor. Maybe there isn’t enough motivation for the player to use the techniques, like remembering the serial number of a bill. Maybe saving the sheriff’s life with some memorized numbers would be better, or getting the girl in the end by memorizing her phone number. Who knows? Overall, I am glad that this exists and hope that it will guide someone to learn about memory techniques and use them to their advantage in school and life.
