Glorkian Warrior: The Trials Of Glork

I found this in my library when trying to clear out the backlog and it's a shame I didn't discover it sooner. This is a super charming Galaga inspired game. Instead of a ship, you control a little alien guy and his talking backpack/weapon, running left and right while you autofire at the enemies. There are sometimes little ground enemies to stop on, so you can't get tunnel vision only looking at the top of the screen. Every run feels like you're making progress. The more you play, the more powerups, upgrades and content you unlock. It's not a super challenging game, and because you're always getting new stuff, dying doesn't feel like a punishment, but getting a really high score is going to take some practice. The art and characters are super silly and I knew immediately that this was going to be a fun game to try.

Glorkian Warrior is such a dumb, mindless, repetitive, brain numbing gaming experience. You know there is no end, it's a complete waste of time even after you have died a billion times. Something compels you to continue playing it for no reason at all, just to get killed over and over again and start the game over again and again and again. Maybe it's those Galaga moments that keep throwing me back to my arcade days, I dunno. BTW, it runs fantastic on my Steam Deck.

*nom nom* give me all the crackers Super fun and surprisingly deep and challenging without even having to press the fire button. This game took me by surprise. It's charm and simplicity are what keep me coming back, and it keeps me interested by not being boring somehow. There is this hook in the loop that's pretty rewarding too with the rewards system. It somehow manages to capture the feeling of playing Galaga, Space Invaders, and Arkanoid at the same time. The power ups are gratifying and fun to use, and the platforming/jumping adds just an extra little bit of spice to keep me on my toes. The art style is adorable and heart warming, and the creatures and the sound effects are great. I feel like a little boy again standing in front of the arcade a little bit, and the children encouraging me, and saying "that's ok" when I die, just warms my heart. I'm a big softy I guess? This is a fantastic game and I recommend it. Casual pick-up and play later for sure. I am currently saving for a better GPU than I have because I thought I was playing far more demanding games. This game accurately represents the sorts of games I've been playing the last 6 months. Maybe I don't need a new GPU after all. To call this a platformer is not really true but it [i]technically[/i] is. It's Galaga but you walk on a platform instead and it plays far better than the screenshots really do it justice. I paid $1.87 for this game on sale and it is worth every cent.
