Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes

I absolutely love the Little Nightmares franchise, yes even the third game. And I do love this game as well, in every aspect besides gameplay this is a 7/10 Little Nightmares experience. I have some small complaints but they mainly have to deal with the fact that this is a VR title, some awful lag, simplified mechanics and odd visuals are basically expected. However what is NOT expected and has me unfortunately not be able to recommend this title is LITERALLY one main feature present throughout the entire game that I have come to absolutely. fricking. despise. "Scrambling" I don't know if it has an actual name in game but I call it scrambling and what I am referring to is the vaulting/climbing mechanic this game has, and how ABHORRENT it is. This mechanic is the absolute DEATH of me and makes this game INFURIATING to play. The game needs to be way more lenient about how high up you need to be for it to move you because I could pull myself like fifteen feet above a ledge and this game would not move me onto it, which is absolutely obnoxious considering how often this happens during chase sequences so you are just scrambling trying to hoist yourself up over and over and over agai…

Its not bad... its just not something that's exactly a marvel either. As someone who loves 1 and 2, it's deeply saddening to see the series just stray further and further from the original idea after Tarsier left. Lore aspects? Literally all over the place, makes absolutely no sense. There was no depth to this game, nothing that hit. Kinda just feels low effort as an actual contribution to the series, like they just threw Six's shadow in to spark interest, but then nothing in the game gives any meaning. The gameplay experience was a little frustrating at times with the sort of awkward vaulting feature and no jumping. Not to mention being forced to have vignette for the release experience which they have since fixed! Overall it was neat at times, a couple good scares, but wont ever be a real Little Nightmares game to me.

*FYI you CAN remove the hood vignette AND smooth turn- fixed in an update Prior to this game's release, I was completely unfamiliar with the Little Nightmares franchise. So before playing this one, I purchased and played through all 3 Little Nightmares games using UEVR mod. In my opinion, playing the main games first (at least one and two) contributed enormously to my enjoyment of this game. Highly recommend playing those first if you haven't. You feel SO small in this game. They nailed the atmosphere. The environments and colors. It truly felt like you were inside the first or second Little Nightmares games. It also had some surprising VR interactions. You could climb almost anything, pick up and throw almost anything. There were crayons and chalk that you could write with and matches you could strike right on a box. Those little interactions are the things in VR that can turn a decent game into a real experience. The only thing that threw me at first was you cannot jump. I was assuming this would be a first person puzzle platformer and couldn't figure out how that was going to work without a jump button. But to clarify- it's more stealth, climbing and light puzzles.

A whole lot better than I was expecting so far. 8.5/10
