About Metal Black™ S-Tribute

Metal Black is a 2D was originally released as a side-scrolling shooter arcade game by Taito in 1991. This game is a reproduction of the home console version released by Ving in 1996.

◆ Power-ups
Level up your beam by grabbing the power-ups floating on screen called NEWALONE (round molecules colored red, blue, and yellow). There are five levels (the highest being MAX) to power up your shots.

When the beam gauge is full, you can perform beam energy attacks. However, the beam gauge will decrease with each of these attacks, and once it is empty the beam energy attack cannot be used.

There are two types of beam energy attacks.

・Focused Beam: Makes a focused attack to the front while the energy shot button is pressed and held. When the beam gauge is at maximum, this will fire MAX lasers.
・Release Beam: When the beam gauge level is at MAX, pressing the energy shot button will fire an attack that damages all enemies.

The boss of each stage also launches beam energy attacks. When the beam from your ship collides with the beam from a boss, the interference creates a huge ball of energy, which moves from the side with a higher gauge to the side with a lower gauge.

Game is probably fine. Refund requested - broken Steam Controller menu seems to make it impossible to use the analogue stick instead of d-pad - basically unplayable with d-pad.

incredibly huge nostalgia attatched to this one, i'd go into detail on it but my fingers would get tired writing this out all day. so all i'll say is that it ticks every box i didnt realise i had, audio, visual, vibe, gameplay, graphics, everything. very fun shmup, i'd give it a go if you have the patience for the genre, enjoy music and a visual art direction like no other game i've played to this day.

one of my favorite shmups of all time. even 35 years later there are still very few games in the genre that capture the same kind of surreal emotional vibe. it's really something special the port itself is fine enough. it's basically 1:1 with the saturn version for the most part, although they did also add a level select so you don't have to finish the game in one go

Another legendary shmup from the Sega Saturn vault. This is one of the first games that got me into the long and expensive journey of Saturn imports over 20 years ago. Space horror, dystopian/post apocalyptic aesthetic with the awesome Taito soundtrack (composed by Yasuhisa Watanabe). Although it is very difficult to master, I feel like when you die it's because you made a mistake and not because it is impossible. I still love the genre but these 90s shmups are clearly cut from a different cloth.
