Here Be Dragons is a satirical turn-based strategy game featuring unique "living map" graphics, where you lead a group of crazed captains and eradicate legendary monsters in order to allow Christopher Columbus the discovery of the New World.

Firstly, someone had to defeat kraken and tritons. Someone had to vanquish the Leviathan. Someone had to banish all the ghost ships. The information about these deeds is missing from the archives, and you can’t find it in any great statesmen’s memoir. The knowledge of the “Avant Armada” was completely erased by some bloody officials.
The people who took part in the expeditions were not sane people. Maniacs, psychos and common crackpots were forced by royal orders to eradicate Evil in the uncharted seas. “Here Be Dragons” describes these events.

GAMEPLAY
- Use original Dice Activation System to attack enemies, heal your crew, and upgrade the fleet.
- Collect Ink and use Errata to turn the tide of the encounter.
- Cross the seas with an ancient, living map, full of terrible creatures that want to devour you!
- Confront the most fierce beasts that ever lived: leviathans and krakens, predatory whales and lustful mermaids. Decimate tritons, awake Dagon, and then erase them from human memory.

- Meet an extraordinary company of weirdos, madmen and oddballs. Their vices and virtues fuel the journey.
- Experience clashes with bureaucratic machine. Don’t lose your mind when confronted by absurdities spewed by authorities and royal advisors.

"Here be dragons" is unique in many ways, being everything, but not what I expected. And if you're open-minded, that is very positively. The artworks are aesthetically - I like the way everything looks like an old map. When I first saw the scenes with the governor and the walking on the city maps, I expected some kind of management or adventure game, which it isn't. These are - as far as I can see - only fixed sequences to drive the plot. In a humorous way. The gameplay itself is not a roguelike or open-world, but 'campaign'-driven, with campaign meaning some battles in a row, between which I can temporarily upgrade my ships, meaning to add a point for defense for example. The battles itself are the main part of the game, difficult even on 'fun'-difficulty, and being puzzle-like and outcome heavily influencd by dice. And this random dice throwing adds hell of thrill to the game, and every dice-placement has to be well thinked over. You can place dice into abilities, upgrading the ships hull or cannons, and use bottles to change the results to trap enemies. This way, it becomes a puzzle-battler, something I didn't xpect, and highly like!4 found this helpful
I think this game is borderly playable and absolutely sure it is one-time game with zero replayability and zero junctions to take any decisions at levels higher than local tactic. With about half a dozen hours I've reached ending on high difficulty while forced to replay some parts of story to be able overcome final combats of arcs not due to random, but with my skill. Pros: * cheap * simle Cons: * too simple * strictly linear and very short story * random over skill * zero replayability * near to zero asset managemets
I was moderately enjoying this game before it soft locked on me twice. The second time it was at the end of a battle I won but it failed to progress to the upgrade screen. I had to do the entire battle over again for 3 ghost ships which for the game is very RNG if you can even attack them. The battles take very long if you don't get good enough rolls.
Why is this game so buggy, like every second fight needs to be restarted.
It is a fun enough game. It deserves better reviews than it has at the moment.
Simple game, best to get it on a sale (if -75% then the cost is 2,43€). I played about 4 hours and then I got bored. But 4 hours for 2,43€ is a great bargain.
