really poor attempt at a 'ARPG' crossed with HoMM! the travel distance (per day) is drop dead stupid.. at which point you have to camp and 'look for food'.. more often than not you dont find anything so have to use rations.. rations cost a LOT.. so you try to get more ppl hunting (you choose what they do as part of the 'camp process').. its a 'resource management' type process that has 'RNG' applied to it.. as a result of the requirement to camp, an event might 'trigger'.. and EVERY 'event' is geared against you, resulting in something negaitve.. and thus I tended to constantly use 'save scuming'.. not that it seems to help , as most events happen regardless of whether you have more guards or not! you're constantly losing 'valuables' to 'stealing'..and when I decided to spend all the money, they started stealing other things, like oil or medicine or whatever! then there is the combat which is atrocious.. for instance, putting an archer in amongst a group of enemies gives each of them an AoO when the archer attacks! how!? firing a bow is no different to swinging a sword.. it's not like the archer is trying to move out of the 'hex'... and after combat instead of individual xp you g…

After reading and hearing mixed opinions I've been pleasently surprised. First I really like unique/less exploited settings and that is exactly what we get here, La conquista de América is rather rarely used in games, probably even less in RPGish genre. Worth noting is that, it's not just based on facts, as there are some changes and even a little bit of paranormal activites, which only makes it even more interesting. I'd say plot is good, so is writing, dialogues might not offer many branchings but are solid, and so are options we are presented with. The best thing is that choices actually matter, sometimes a lot, so the game can be replayed not only in order to try new builds but also for different plot choices. Combat can be fun, it doesn't allow much variety per class, as almost all perks are shared, there are clear winners in terms of certain weapon types usability, like arquebus is much better than bow, to the point a hunter using a bow might make you think the class is just weak but the second you try EXACT same build but with the gun it's magically starts to deliver. It's kind of just a slog from start to finish. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a bad game, it's just not for me.

I bought this on sale bundled with Expeditions Rome and Vikings. I have never played a game in this setting and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very satisfactory to discover and reveal the map, and to role play a Conquistador. I married two native ladies and sacrificed a member of my expedition to acquire a powerful artifact. This game was great fun and it played very smoothly despite it being old. 9.4 out of 10

That's my first game in the expeditions series and I jumped in knowing next to nothing about the game. I liked the setting (not enough RPGs are set in this era), I liked that it tries to be realistic (no magic), I liked the stories you encounter and the characters you meat. I think the role-playing aspect of the game is actually pretty good. However, some aspects of the gameplay are not great. - Limited movement on the map and camping become tedious very fast. I guess the idea was to trigger random events while camping and the need to manage your rations to avoid mutiny. But the way it's implemented it feels more like a nuisance, than part of the story. The good thing is you have good enough difficulty adjustments, so you can pretty much chose to ignore this mechanic if you chose. - Difficulty spikes - some battles are considerably more difficult. I'm fine with losing battles and trying again, but overall it felt very uneven sometimes - Battles themselves in the mid to late game become repetitive (apart from spike in difficulty for some battles). - Abilities are per class, not a character. So 2 different characters of the same class would be more or less the same in the battlefiel…
