Not the biggest fan of Hexen, however if you still wanna play it, play the remaster from Nightdive. Deathkings however is also way more confusing than Beyond Heretic, also respawns are a big thing here as way more enemies and stronger ones can respawn, so I'd pass on this one. And yeah there is nothing new in Deathkings, no new weapons, items or enemies. So it's just a map pack.

Some of the worst level design I have ever seen. Way too many switches and corners to find and cross doesn't add too many new things to the base hexen either!

(Note: Playtime is inaccurate as I used the Heretic + Hexen remaster, but will still review the game as it's original counterpart.) More Hexen for your Hexen! Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel is a expansion pack to the original Hexen featuring a new campaign with 3 hubs (plus a bonus Deathmatch hub) and that Enemy and Level design Hexen is known for albeit scaled back in ways. It follows the 3 Heroes, Baratus, Parias, and Daedolon after kicking Korax into the ground and are whisked away into the Realm of the Dead and have to find their way out. Which is a problem as the titular Dark Citadel stands in your way. As expansion packs go this basically kinda gives you more of the same just a tad harder and sometimes shorter in areas. Gameplay of DotDC is basically identical to Hexen, you even have the same single map to introduce the game before going straight into the hubs. The main difference obviously comes with the new levels and the difficultly. Being a expansion pack that came out only a few months and still back in the 90s the level design isn't too much different in style to what the base game offered. Very simple depictions of locations but enough detail to not run int…
