WHAT'S INSIDE THIS RELEASE
You're getting two builds: patched (Enhanced) and retail (Original) for those of you who prefer an unaltered experience as a bonus. Both builds are running on DOSBox with a custom configuration tool. The Enhanced build features fixes introduced in EGwhaven, a must-have community project, which addresses an array of bugs and issues with the game (we'd like to thank ETTiNGRiNDER for the contribution to this release). Additionally, the controls are re-mapped to what you'd expect to see as a default in a first-person game nowadays.

This is an ancient abandonware game from 1995... full 31 years old at the time of this review, and, unsurprisingly, does not in any way shape or form compare well to contemporary video games. Now, if it was 1995, I'd be telling you to play Hexen II which came out the same year, and is a lot better. This was an "ok" game in 1995 and, unless you've been in a coma, you might be aware it's now 2026. This is a fantasy brawler with DooM era mechanics and very lightweight RPG elements... but the theme and design aren't the problem, it's the age. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio, due to the age of the game, it predates the 16:9 widescreen gaming standard established back in 2006. It's possible they're marketing this towards people using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game is being specifically marketed towards people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. It's obviously not going to look right on a modern 16:9 gaming display. Due to the age of this game, and the lac…3 found this helpful
It's a fun game with a good artstyle but i'm leaving a bad review because the devs are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and delisting it for no reason. eat ♥♥♥♥!2 found this helpful
I only discovered this game when I heard it was being delisted from Steam. Is Hexen better? Sure. But for the price, I had a lot of fun with this game.1 found this helpful
An excellent first-person action game set in a dark medieval fantasy world. The mechanic of first finding a pentagram and then the exit portal in each level is fantastic, giving it a great focus on exploration. The RPG elements, such as leveling up, using spells, and weapon wear, are also interesting, giving it a truly unique feel compared to the 90s FPS games it might initially be compared to. The map design is complex and satisfying. As a fan of boomer shooters and dark fantasy, I had A BLAST with this old gem.1 found this helpful
