Ultra-Ultra Doggy Trainer!! is such a weird and charming little RPG that I ended up liking it much more than I expected. I play as Arlo Katman, a young dog trainer trying to raise a puppy strong enough to become the champion of Pastel Town. The whole game has this wonderfully silly world where cats and dogs have a history of fighting, but underneath all the jokes there is a surprisingly enjoyable mix of training, exploration and everyday life. The main gameplay revolves around training my puppy through turn based battles. I really liked this because it gives the dog training idea an actual gameplay purpose instead of just making it a cosmetic feature. Battles feel simple enough to understand quickly, but there is still some strategy in deciding how I want to develop my puppy and handle different opponents. Creating my own dog through the Design a Dog system is also a fun little touch because it makes the companion feel more personal. What I enjoyed most is how the game lets me control Arlo's time outside of battles.
