Why the same game costs different prices in the US, EU and UK

If you have ever compared notes with a friend abroad, you may have found the same game costs noticeably more or less depending on where you are. This is regional pricing, and understanding it helps you read deals correctly.
Why prices differ by region
Publishers set prices per region to reflect local currencies, taxes and purchasing power. That is why a game might be one price in the United States, another in the Eurozone, and another again in the UK — even on the same store, at the same moment. None of it is a mistake; it is deliberate localisation.
What this means for you
The practical upshot: always compare prices in your own region, because a deal that looks great in one currency may be ordinary in another. It also means keyshop prices, which are often sourced across regions, can vary — and occasionally a very cheap key is region-locked to somewhere you cannot activate it.
