Where in the world is a PC game cheapest?

The same games, priced in five currencies on the same day — what a buyer in London, Warsaw or São Paulo actually pays against a buyer in the United States. Recomputed every six hours. Last computed 15 Sep 2026.

Steam, GOG and Epic set a separate price per region, and the keyshops that resell their keys price in local currency too. So "what a PC game costs" has no single answer — it has one per country. We took every game that at least 50 people have reviewed on Steam and that carries a live price in both the United States and the region being compared, and matched them game by game. That pairing is the whole point: a median UK price set against a median US price would be comparing two different baskets of games.

Read the gap with tax in mind. European and UK store prices are quoted with VAT already in them — 20% in the UK, 19-23% across the eurozone — while a US listing shows the price before the sales tax the buyer then pays at checkout, which varies by state. So a European figure a little above parity is mostly that difference rather than a publisher charging Europe more. Every price here is what the store actually asks for, because that is the number a buyer decides on; it is not a tax-neutralised comparison, and we have not tried to make it one.

Converted at the European Central Bank's euro reference rates of 2026-09-14, the median game costs the same in Eurozone, 8% more in United Kingdom, 16% more in Poland, 32% less in Brazil.

What the same game costs, by region

Median best price across every store we compare, in the currency the buyer is charged, and — where a rate was available — the same figure in USD beside what the same games cost in the United States. Both price columns describe one basket, so they can be read against each other directly.

The figures no exchange rate can move

Each of these is a ratio computed inside one currency, so it stands whatever the rate does — and it answers a question the converted prices cannot: is this region a better place to shop, rather than simply a cheaper one?

Method

  • Population: every game with at least 50 Steam user reviews and a live price in both the United States and the compared region. Free-to-play titles, DLC and gift cards are excluded. A game priced in only one of the two regions is dropped, not filled in.
  • Price: the lowest current price for the game across every store we compare, in the currency that region is charged in. A region's row counts only prices genuinely quoted in its own currency — where a store falls back to dollars, that offer is excluded rather than converted twice.
  • "vs US" is the median of the per-game ratio, not the quotient of the two median columns. The two are different statistics and will not agree exactly: the median of a ratio is not the ratio of medians. The per-game version is the one that answers "what does the typical game cost here compared with there", because it never lets an expensive game in one column pair with a cheap one in the other.
  • Conversion: European Central Bank euro reference rates, read at compute time; the date used is printed above. No figure in the second table depends on it.
  • Tax is not netted out. EU and UK prices include VAT; US prices exclude sales tax. That asymmetry flatters the United States by roughly the VAT rate and is the single largest caveat on the "vs US" column — treat a European gap of about that size as tax, not as regional pricing.
  • Georgia is served US dollar pricing rather than a local currency, so it is not a separate region here.
  • Medians throughout, never means. Figures recompute every six hours. The page went live on 2026-09-15.
