Avencast: Rise of the Mage is an action RPG that stands out through its determination to make spellcasting feel active rather than passive. Developed by ClockStone and published digitally by Meridian4, it combines dungeon crawling, hack-and-slash combat, character progression, exploration, equipment collection, and light adventure elements within a dark fantasy setting. Its age is immediately apparent in the presentation and interface, but underneath those dated qualities is a surprisingly inventive combat system that gives the adventure a personality of its own. The story places you in the role of a young mage studying at the magical academy of Avencast. What begins as a journey of training and personal development quickly becomes considerably more dangerous when demonic creatures descend upon the academy. The institution is transformed from a place of learning into a battlefield, leaving the protagonist to confront waves of supernatural enemies while investigating the source of the invasion. Cant look up for some weird reason

very good game

It's so fun to cast high variety of spells. Delicious combat, a cliche but easy story to follow. I played this game about 2 years ago and now i wanna play it again it was good tbh.

I’ve put in 70+ hours and 10+ walk though the game; some parts are genuinely great. It’s a bold experiment—trying to weave fighting-game mechanics into spellcasting. but with more than a decade of hindsight, It's overall pacing feels sluggish. Whether you go Blood or Soul Magic, you don’t get your first actually useful spell until around level 13–14. You would finish the game at roughly level 30–35, which means the first 40 % of the campaign is spent kiting enemies with two or three basic spells. It’s a slog. If you want a unique, delightfully off-beat magic casting experience, I’d steer you toward the Magicka instead.
