one of the greatest kart racers of all time...CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED

Zero Gear, developed and published by Brian Cronin, is a lively and physics-driven kart racing game that emphasizes fun, chaos, and creativity over strict competition. It’s a project that captures the energy of classic kart racers while injecting a unique indie sensibility, trading polished realism for unpredictability and personality. Released in 2010, it quickly established itself as a hidden gem for players who value multiplayer mayhem, accessible controls, and moments of spontaneous laughter. Unlike many kart games that follow a rigid structure, Zero Gear embraces the unexpected; its combination of customizable vehicles, exaggerated physics, and wild weapons ensures that no two races ever unfold the same way. At first glance, Zero Gear presents itself with charming simplicity. The visuals are bright and cartoonish, evoking the spirit of older arcade titles rather than modern graphical fidelity. Every kart and driver is customizable, from the shape and color of the car to the look of the characters themselves, giving the game a lighthearted personality that fits perfectly with its tone. The environments are varied, featuring more than a dozen imaginative maps that range from wh…

the worst controls I have ever come across... just utter stupidity

The 15 years old code standards make the default resolution in this game...tiny, not adapting to our screen, so switching between the game ad anything else will lag and change the desktop organisation. It's not the worst racing game, but it's not among the best. The graphics are still cute, the items are fun... it's not expensive, it was made with love. That all the positive things I can say. No tutorial about the different "game modes". Not knowing the rules, expect to loose very often at first. My first experience was a tag game on a tiny arena where everyone (AI?) was confuse and kept faling undner the map. There is no upgrades for the kart, and by default, it's difficult to control and slow. But we can customize the style. The circutits are lovely! We can choose a list of curcuits to play like in a shampionship. But not the order in which they will be played - unless that is a bug I'm encountering. There UI doesn't have any accessibility settings (small font). The menus lack fuctionalities like disabling all tracks, or ading all tracks. For a 15 years old solo dev game, it's not bad. But it might be more logical to give it free. There is an obligatory warmup, I thi…
