Sea Explorer

This is a decent little game that echoes its namesake. You explore as far as your ship supplies will allow, with your sailors making sure they always have enough supplies to make it home and insisting on returning at that point. Each trip gives you the chance to earn cash and upgrade your ship storage, which will allow you to travel further and further out from your base island. As much as I jokingly wrote this review initially to accommodate a requirement for the Summer Sale 2019 event, this really is actually a good, casual game, better suited for a phone or tablet, but still enjoyable on PC as well. Sea Explorer is an abandoned open world "tycoon" game with a pirate theme. It was slapped together lazily with Unity. Your business is pirating the seven seas. So this is very much a thematic ripoff of Sid Meier's Pirates, but worse. My first instinct when I saw this come up on my list for reviews is that it was an asset flip, but it's most certainly a genuine, if half hearted attempt to make a game. Or it was, the developer has a splash screen telling people the game is unfinished, but I don't see any "Early Access" badge on this, just a full price tag. The concept is fine, of course, Sid Meier's Pirates badly needs another remake (the last one doesn't run well on modern PCs). This ain't it. The quality here is garbage as the screenshots show... clunky gameplay, clunky interface, lame low poly "art"... ouch. I'd be sympathetic because it's nice when developers actually try instead of just copying + pasting asset flips, but the sympathy dries up faster than a sailor stuck on a desert island when you consider this is abandoned, will never be completed, but the developer is greedily selling Steam keys in bulk to cheap bundlemongers as a nasty cash grab despite knowing the…

Explore the sea and DIE

Honestly, had this game been just a tad different, it would have made millions as the first notable Incremental game on steam. Alas it was more about exploring than incremental gains. - The game is extremely simplistic, again, its really just a super slow incremental where you just try to get more money after each return to the island. - combat is janky and easy, just back away from a ship infinitely as it chases you. + some of the content was legitimately neat, such as whale ancestry...... and whale ancestry, ok the whales where neat and thats about all I got out of this. Its not super bad or anything, but i just dont think its worth the money.
