7 Wonders: Ancient Alien Makeover

This is the last game my grandpa played before passing away. The 7 Wonders games are the games he spent the most time in when gaming and he loved them. I'm planning to play and 100% the game at some point as a way to honor him and I'm looking forward to it. But that's beside the point and irrelevant to the review. Personally, I think the gameplay loop can be addicting and I like it a lot. While I don't have a lot of time spent on it on my account, I played more when visiting grandpa. I also like the visual style and there is enough content to enjoy several hours. It's a good game to play when you want to relax a bit after a stressful day at work. Looking forward to playing it more.

The game has 26 Steam achievements, yet the store page doesn’t properly show the achievement feature/tag. That’s frustrating for achievement hunters who use Steam’s store filters to find games with achievements. It’s especially strange here because the game actually makes a big deal about its achievements, with 56+ levels, multiple difficulty modes and plenty of challenges that tie directly into them. Steam should really have the store information properly tagged so these games can actually be found.

I enjoy Match 3 Games -- this one was good but I lost interest after playing awhile. I earned a few achievements. Now to try another game.

This entry adds a lot more content and gameplay options compared to the classic 7 Wonders games, which is impressive at first glance. There are plenty of new features and systems, and it definitely feels more packed. For me though, it’s actually a bit overwhelming for such a simple type of game. The added complexity doesn’t always improve the experience, and after a few hours it started to feel a bit boring rather than engaging. It’s still fairly relaxing, but I think the simplicity of the original two games worked better overall. I’ll probably stick with those in the future.
