this maybe a good game but without controller support i'll never know!

Street Racer is an ancient SNES game from 1994. It's a whopping 30 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. Street Racer is an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Mario Kart (Copyright Nintendo, 1992). Many lazy "amateur" developers don't pay attention to their obligations under copyright law, and often steal the ideas of actual, real game developers without credit, such as the "developer" here has done. At this stage no legal action has been taken by Nintendo against the "developer" here, but it's never off the table, as previous copyright law cases have shown. They might get a pass here, because this was permitted on the SNES, so Nintendo knew their copyright was being breached... regardless, just because the case hasn't been tried in court doesn't mean it won't be. [h1] Racing game from DOS era. Controls are all over the place, gladly you can change them in settings. DOS and 16-bit console versions are different. DOS version have super tiny circuits and some 3D terrain. In this version when boosting acceleration button need to be released. Console version is more similar to Mario Kart and have flat levels. Also in this version bilinear filter is forced on so expect blurry visuals. Are you ready for 10 laps? Because I'm not. 10 quirky characters with funny names to choose from. When driving slap your opponents in neck leaving smoking red mark behind like a memo - I WAS HERE. Power ups like health, turbo and time bomb which you constantly try to shake off to nearest opponent, I mean all the time. Collect stars, for what? To be honest I have no slightest idea. Music is ok. Only good thing about this one are characters and 16-bit console version which is more reliable. Better play it on actual console - at least controls are working. If you don't mind wacky racing games from 90s, then you might wanna not play this. [/h1]

It is a typical Piko release - feels botched. Of course the "16 bit" version has that super laggy Mednafen setup that is a Piko stable. It is as if a third-world guy was paid a close to nothing to get some old game working.

Would highly recommend it for anyone interested in retro racing games! At the time, people consider it an improved version of Super Mario Kart, and it even contains modes that would later be added in Mario Kart 64 - although not even as good. There's quiet a few misconceptions in the other reviews I've read, so I'll address some of them. The two versions included are [b]not[/b] remakes, they're ports. The SNES/16-bit version is the first released, and the DOS version is the latest. There were 7 versions released in total, and there's a lot of minor differences between versions. I don't think anyone expects 7 versions of a game on Steam, but I believe the Playstation version is the most played - so It'll be considered the "correct" version by most people. Of the ones included here, I prefer the SNES/16-bit version. There isn't [b]native[/b] support, but combining Steam' controller layout adjustments with the ingame options makes it quiet easy to accommodate any controller - there's even a bunch of Community Layout. A brilliant classic with a really fantastic soundtrack. One game that really deserves a remaster so it can be enjoyed in modern resolutions.
