Dino Quake

Great little arcade game, strongly inspired by the old bubble bobble games even my non-gaming mum loved to play with us back on the master system 2. Great on steamdeck where I usually play a round or two in quick bursts. highly recommended and incredibly cute art style.

Best 8 euros I've ever spent. As a huge fan of Comedy Action Games (Bubble Bobble-likes, for those who have never heard the term) this hot the spot in EVERY way. Sweet pixel graphics, catchy chiptunes, and a gameplay loop that balances memorization and luck in the best way. It's fairly short, and I felt confused when I beat the final boss the first time. "THAT'S IT?"... but then, a new dino hatched from an egg, and it all clicked. I'm still trying to unlock every character, and I love how they're the Difficulty Modifiers. It's all just perfect for me. The only negative aspect I could think of is how I wasn't able to get it sooner. Give it a shot, really.

The game feels like a fresh mix of Bubble Bobble, Snow Bros, and Mario Bros. Wonderful to play if you have a little extra time.

Dino Quake is a lot like Bubble Bobble. In Bubble Bobble, you shoot bubbles at things and then pop the bubble to beat them. In this game, you stomp the ground to flip things over and then run into them. If they run into another enemy, they became a wad of enemies that can bounce off the walls and stick together for a while, based on how many enemies are in the ball. As it gets bigger, you get better fruits from the defeated enemies. You also use the rolled-up wads of enemies to attack the bosses. I think my favorite thing about it was how picking your path for each run makes the game so much more replayable. After the starter area, you start choosing where to go after each one, and face a different set of levels with different enemies in each area. The path you take also determines which dinosaur you unlock when you beat the game. I also like the stomp mechanic from this more than the bubble mechanic from Bubble Bobble. For one, it puts more of a limit on when you can attack enemies, since you can't attack at all during a jump. This forces you to treat even the most basic enemies as dangerous when you're jumping up from one platform to another, since you'll be defenseless on your…

An excellent, addictive classic feeling arcade game with a lovely aesthetic and a fun couch co-op mode. There's not a huge amount of content, I'd love to see more levels or new ways to play added. It really does feel like the kind of classic old game you'd have rented as a kid. I suppose my biggest complaint is that I would like more, it's a great format that could be expanded on easily. I tend to think of that as the best kind of complaint. I ended up feeling like easy mode was a little TOO easy and normal was maybe a little too hard, perhaps a middle ground difficulty would have been nice. I also found the way to unlock new characters a little confusing, it would be really nice if there were some sort of in game feature that helped keep track of which paths had been completed and which ones hadn't. Perhaps when choosing which zone to go to next having some sort of icon above the doors to indicate if that way would lead to unlockables or not? I'd recommend playing on normal to get a proper understanding of the mechanics, as it was a little too much of a breeze and didn't require much effort on easy mode. Anyway, absolutely worth playing. Lots of fun.
