Gun Frog

I hate and love this game. I love that it's almost purely skill based and hate it for the same reason.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) Gun Frog is a fun little indie game that delivers about as much entertainment as you'd expect for €5. If you work your way from the easy difficulty through normal and hard, you'll probably get around 2–3 hours of gameplay out of it. For a short, inexpensive game, that's perfectly reasonable. The problem starts if you're someone who likes going for 100% achievements. To unlock every achievement, you have to beat the game on Extreme difficulty. That means enemies have massively increased health, far more enemies spawn, and if you die, your entire save is deleted and you have to start all over again. For me, that just doesn't fit the rest of the game. Everything else about Gun Frog screams "relax after work" or "play this while hanging out with friends in Discord." It's simple, casual, and easy to pick up. Then suddenly, for one achievement, the game expects you to sweat through an unforgiving permadeath challenge that feels completely out of place. Funny frog have shotgun!! But its a quirky game with pretty difficult bosses on harder difficulties! And its cheap!

this game is very fun because of the gameplay and the way it works. the bossfights are pretty ahrd and fun

This is one of those "intentionally bad" games that has terrible controls that deliberately make it harder to play than it should be, and it works at that. You play as a frog with a shotgun in its mouth (it has the range of a normal gun, though). You shoot flies to collect them and buy ammo and upgrades. Each of the four main areas has a shrine with a boss that you must kill to open the portal to the final boss. Normal mode is basically casual difficulty. Hard mode is significantly harder, especially near the end. If you beat hard mode, you unlock "extreme difficulty" and of course this is totally broken because it has permdeath enabled. The only way to reliably win is by exploiting the level boundaries and forcing the bosses into positions where they can't hit you. This is because when you play fairly many of the bosses have "seeker" movesets that home in and kill you regardless of whether or not you're playing correctly. I do like that you can bounce on lily pads as that is a very "frog" thing to do, and the various upgrades are fun to find.
