About American Arcadia

✦ AI summary

Escape a dystopian reality TV show by controlling two characters across puzzle-platforming and hacking gameplay as an office worker and his ally work together to expose the lies behind American Arcadia. This stylish retro-futuristic adventure blends compelling storytelling with dual-perspective puzzle solving, featuring stellar voice acting and a mystery-laden narrative that unfolds across a richly crafted world.

Tune in to American Arcadia, the most popular reality tv show on the planet! In this retro-futuristic 70s metropolis all citizens enjoy a life of luxury and comfort... and are completely unaware that they're being broadcast 24/7!

So escape from the real world and sit back to enjoy the most dangerous contest on air, where a drop in your popularity comes at the highest cost: death.

Trevor Hills is your ordinary, everyday, average man. He’s more than happy with his mundane life as an office clerk. Unfortunately, this doesn’t make him very popular with the ever-important viewers of American Arcadia and sets him up for a one way trip to execution – unless he escapes.

Luckily for Trevor, he’s got help.

Angela Solano is a stage technician for American Arcadia, and she’s determined to make sure that Trevor gets out of Arcadia alive. Assisting from the outside, she uses her technical prowess and wits to manipulate the world around him, clearing the path to his freedom.

But neither Angela nor Trevor are prepared for this escape to become a journey filled with twists, turns, and lies.

Control two different characters in two different worlds as you play through Trevor’s escape in 2.5D puzzle platforming sections and assist him as Angela in first-person hacking gameplay. It’s only by working together that they have any chance to overcome the corporation they’re up against!

After telling the story of love and loss in the 1930’s South Pacific, developers Out of the Blue have created a completely new experience set in a rich world of twists and mystery.

Play through a layered narrative with the trademark polish and artistry from an award-winning studio with seasoned acting veterans Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man 1 & 2, Call of the Sea), Krizia Bajos (Cyberpunk 2077, League of Legends), and Cissy Jones (Firewatch, Call of the Sea) others bringing the characters and world to life.

This is one of those games that only comes along maybe once every 10 or so years; a really well-polished indie game that has a story that is unlike any other game I've ever played. American Arcadia is one of the best story-based games I've ever played. The imagery and symbolism of being trapped due to corporate greed, capitalism, and "selling out" are all portrayed so perfectly. The game definitely takes a satirical angle at capitalism, and I feel that very much resonates with how our society is today. As for the game itself, performance-wise, the game is beautiful. I adore the art style, animation, and music. The voice-acting is top notch as well. I did occasionally encounter a soft-lock, but that was very easily fixed by reloading from a checkpoint. I didn't encounter any stuttering, lag, or crashes. However, I do have a relatively beefy computer, so your mileage may vary. The game makes A LOT of pop-culture references. Anything from the 1970s and onward is pretty much fair game. Obviously the game leans heavily into "The Truman Show" for story inspiration. However, I feel like this game takes it a step further. Instead of the protagonist being someone that "everyone" in the g…

This game has a brilliant story that is extremely intriguing and captivating. The gameplay is versatile, the pov changes are refreshing and the puzzles are fun to solve. Easily one of my all time favourite games. I can recommend it to everyone. Here is a review from someone i recommended it to from my steam-family (meaning he can't post his own review): honestly, this game is one of those games that i enjoyed so much, if i could erase my memory about a few games so that i can enjoy them again for the first time, this would be one of the games id call up first, such an intriguingly written story, easy but honestly captivating gameplay and fun humor, easily one of my favorite games.

A short, beautiful, compelling (and occasionally frustrating) 2.5D platformer/first-person puzzle game with a strong narrative. I picked it up as a sort of palate cleanser between the 40+ hour games I had been playing, and I was very pleasantly by surprised. The voice acting is great, the characters are strong, and the narrative is basically The Truman Show cranked up to 11. There were a couple parts of particularly annoying bits of platforming, but the puzzles were diverse and tricky while never being outright obtuse. I felt that the game stuck the landing, even if it wasn't in a way that I had expected. The game also runs great on the Steam Deck, with simple and easy-to-grasp controls. I would strongly recommend picking this one up if you're in the mood for something with a strong story that dares to do something a little differently.
