About Carotic - Academic Version

Carotic is a top-down 3D couch-co-op hide-and-seek game for 2-4 players. Each player plays the role of a car in a very busy city. Their task is to drive like the other NPC cars while trying to identify the other players. In order to gain points the other players must be destroyed by dashing into them. The player with the most points after a set amount of time wins.

HIDE AND SEEK
This is just the core gameplay of Carotic as described above. The players' goal is to find the other competitors and dash into them resulting in points for this player and destruction with a short respawn timer for the other. Dashing NPCs does not penalize the player apart from revealing them because of the particle effect and speed up that they gain.

REACH THE GOALS
In addition to the normal game mechanics there are circles of particles that spawn randomly on the map. Players can drive through them to gain additional points providing a common incentive for the players to group up on one point which allows for more options to destroy the other players.

DESTROY THE TOWN
Evolved from a previous idea – the chaos mode – in which all buildings on the map were destructible. Similar to the REACH THE GOALS game mode this one has the additional quirk that there is always one random building which can be destroyed by dashing into it. Destroying buildings is rewarded with points which again, creates a common incentive for the players to group up around a key point on the map.

KRAKATTACK
If you can’t guess it from the title of the game mode, KRAKATTACK features a kraken which is attacking the town. The players can dash into its tentacles to make them retreat into the water. The monster will also destroy players if it slams on them. There is also lightning and thunder that will strike the ground randomly and if a player is too close to the point where the lightning struck, they will get destroyed.

FREE FOR ALL RACE
Is completely different from the other game modes. Players race against each other on a different map - no hiding, no seeking, just racing. In addition to the dash, the players can select events which they can trigger to gain an advantage over the other players. They can destroy buildings to create shortcuts, let a bus drive and destroy all cars in its way, drop a crate from a crane and spawn a boat that jumps onto the street to destroy everything in its way and more!

Players have widely divergent views on Carotic - Academic Version. Some criticize it as a low-effort Unity asset flip with borrowed graphics that offers nothing educational or entertaining, questioning why it exists at all. Others praise it as an effective educational tool for learning human anatomy with excellent 3D visualization and intuitive design, though some feel it lacks sufficient interactive exercises to reinforce learning.

"Carotic - Academic Version" is a simple Unity asset flip, hide/drive cars around a low poly cityscape asset ripped off from the Unity Asset Store. You're supposed to do this with friends, but if you ask your friends to play Unity asset flips with you, you'll soon have no friends. I don't know why this is an "academic version" because we learn nothing from this game, and it doesn't look like there's a paid version or anything. Who knows? Was this just a highschool assignment to test if it's possible to dump a Unity asset flip on Steam? We already know that can be done. And how. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. Insultingly, the developer insists that you should play this with a console peasant children's toy gamepad instead of KB+M. You cannot play this without a console peasant children's toy.
Before I played Carotic - Academic Version, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
2 found this helpful
Oh my gosh, so sowwy to say this, but Carotic - Academic Vewsion is not vewy fun at all. I was weally hoping to enjoy this game, but it was a total disappointment. The game mechanics are too wudimentary and the graphics are just okay-ish. My fwiends and I twied to give it a chance, but we just couldn't get into it. We played it for a few minutes, but then they all suddenly weminded me that they had to go home and they didn't want to play it anymore. I think that says a lot about how uninteresting the game is. By the way, I just want to mention that I'm a furry and I'm pwoud of it. It doesn't have anything to do with the game, but I just thought I'd mention it since you're weading this. It's actually more interesting than Carotic - Academic Vewsion. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone, especially if you're looking for something fun and engaging. It's just not worth the time or the money. You're better off finding a diffewent game to play. Trust me, you'll be much happier that way.
