About Covert Syndrome

Welcome to Covert Syndrome!

Covert Syndrome is a free to play Coop corridor shooter with a focus on unscripted AI and fast tough combat.

Created as a prototyping project we wanted to release it to the community so people can experience Co-op VR for free.

The game consists of 6 combat zones with each zone having multiple waves of enemies. Player take possession of a mechanized agent with a mission to eliminate all enemies while minimizing unnecessary usage of energy. (You energy is both your health AND your ammo.. shoot wisely!)

There is also a firing range where you can practice acquiring and eliminating targets.

After a round players can travel back to the lobby and check out how many credits they earned for their mission. (Best scores are recorded in steam leaderboard)

Don't forget to read the instructions board at the entrance! it will make your experience much more enjoyable!

Available for Arcades on SpringboardVR

Has good intentions but poor execution. Feels unfinished and unresponsive.

Covert Syndrome – Great Concept, but It Needs Some Work 😕🔫 Covert Syndrome has potential, but unfortunately, it feels more like a rough prototype than a finished game. The unscripted AI sounds promising, but in reality, it’s hit-or-miss; enemies either rush at you in predictable waves or feel strangely passive, breaking the immersion pretty quickly. The environments are bare, and there’s not much variety in terms of level design or objectives – just endless, repetitive corridors that start to feel monotonous fast. 🚶‍♂️ While it’s great that the game is free, the clunky controls and limited content make it feel more like a VR tech demo than a solid co-op experience. If you’re looking for a polished VR shooter with depth, you may want to hold out for something more refined. Created with <3

This is a middle-of-the-road review. The game functions alright, has better gun play than other VR shooters I've seen, and runs relatively smoothly, but the controls are nearly Vive-only and haven't aged well at that. There's no ability to turn on the controller, which is a pain when using a wired headset, and the only movement is via teleportation. You can tell this is an older VR game just by that lack of QoL movement controls. Like other early VR games, it's also quite reliant on clicking thumbsticks on Oculus controllers, likely out of an over-reliance of the devs on Vive control paradigms. (It also only shows instructions for Vive controllers, requiring significant trial and error to figure out the controls for anything else.) Overall, though, the game is free, so it might still be worth picking up, which is why I decided to go overall positive for the review.
