About Descent of Man
Story
You play as Jarrett Reed, a member of a small post-apocalyptic community in a world devastated by disease. Alone and unafraid, Reed is a first class scavenger. Reed breaks off the normal scavenging paths used by his community for decades in search of a rumored utopia - a city with running power and a thriving populace. Finding the city, Reed enters seeking to find everything his community needs and more to survive. What he doesn't expect, is the darkness lurking within. Reed will encounter a variety of enemy types each with their own strengths and weaknesses that you must help him overcome. As you manipulate the environment and use gadgets against the enemies, you will need to search for supplies and equipment to escape. Along the way you will be thrown into life and death encounters with dangerous enemies while having to solve puzzles to reveal the path to freedom.
Gameplay Overview
- Use stealth and gadgets to evade intelligent and nightmarish enemies as you scavenge for supplies and escape the insanity of a mad scientist
- Intelligent AI that can see and hear everything in the environment - use this to your advantage to deceive the enemies and lure them away from your position
- Trick enemies into combating one another - leaving you to deal with whoever survives
- Use limited melee weapons to take down enemies
- Solve survival horror puzzles inspired by games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill
- A narrative fully realized with a highly detailed world to include: radio and television broadcasts, voice acting, and detailed environments
- Boss fights
In summary, the main features of the game are satisfying stealth maneuvers to evade enemies, numerous gadgets and weapons to neutralize and deceive enemies as you scavenge for supplies, a variety of enemy types and encounters, a world rich in nightmarish lore that is historically inspired by the American Eugenics movement in the 1900s.
- Sneak to Survive
As you make your escape you will need to deceive, evade, or take-down intelligent and nightmarish enemies. You have limited melee options so plan your attacks carefully. Escape or live to regret it.
- Deceive Enemies
Use the environment to mislead the enemies lurking in the darkness. Use noisemakers, turn on radios, leave doors and windows open to lure enemies away from your path of travel. While they are busy searching suspicious sounds or changes in the environment you can sneak past them.
- Solve Eerie Puzzles
To escape you will use your wit to uncover clues, gather items, and solve puzzles that will propel you into enemy encounters and guide you through the madness.

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players are divided on this game's potential. The positive reviews praise its atmospheric design, graphics, music, and stealth mechanics, noting it shows promise despite being rough around the edges. However, the overwhelming consensus concerns critical bugs—including furnace interaction failures, item handling issues, and game-breaking problems that force restarts to the main menu—combined with poor UI/UX design (missing keybindings, unclear detection indicators) that make the game difficult to recommend in its current state.
I wanted to like this, but so far the demo is too broken to finish. I noticed a bug when you hold an item too long, you cannot get rid of it. This is easy to fix, if I replay and use what I find quickly...but towards the end, when you go to make the coin, the furnace won't allow me to interact with it after I use the valve. Several new games later and the same issue. I see another post about it that went unanswered, so for now I would say do not play this demo. If the dev does fix this, I will be happy to change my review.2 found this helpful
Descent of Man is interesting thing on the paper (and by description of Steam store). It is even charming to some extend with nice atmosphere (music) and graphics - however, remember that there are no keybinding or graphical options... (except brightness, but only in main menu). Then you get very crude "point to see white text" hotspot on 3D environment. However the charm goes away when you encounter enemies. You just simply die and go back to main menu. No way of just getting "continue" or save... And the fact that I died could be nice, if indicators would actually work and show that I am being detected. But nooo, I was just shot at. Considering how rough this is, it is impossible to recommend it. I really feel like story can be good, but it looks like at the same time, project was abandoned to never see updates again.1 found this helpful
THIS AGAME SO SO BUGD SO BAD SORRY 6 years ago THE BUGS ARE NOT FIXED
"Descent of Man" — атмосферная игра с элементами survival horror и исследований.
I had really low expectations for this game having read the other reviews, but honestly I was blown away. This game has amazing graphics and (In my opinion) pretty decent voice acting, especially for a free game. During my gameplay, I really enjoyed the tutorial elements which most of these games lack (Surprisingly). The stealth is quite a smart idea as it's not present in most games of this specific genre, although at times the NPCs were a little janky. Overall, I'm going to recommend this game because it definitely has a lot of potential, especially if it gets more refined.
