About Dissembler

Dissembler is a subtle puzzle game about unraveling playful, abstract designs one color at a time. Flip pairs of tiles to make matching color groups vanish, but that's where the resemblance to a standard match-three ends. In Dissembler no tiles will drop in to replace the ones you have matched: your task is to remove all tiles and leave behind a clean slate. The experience starts simply, leading you gently from basic principles to more and more complex puzzles, and before long it will require careful planning and lateral thinking to keep progressing.

A somewhat tough puzzle game. I liked the amount of levels, the daily puzzles and the sound design. However, I didn't like the overall design approach here. Most puzzles feel like filler and are solved by guessing. The artwork puzzles are great, but there's only a handful of them. The symmetric puzzles are satisfying, but they're few and far between. The mechanics of later puzzles are interesting, but there is no puzzle that stacks all of them. Also, the infinite mode is very frustrating - small mistakes can ruin a run quickly, it takes a lot of luck getting anywhere and it just feels so repetitive. This mode is the game's final grind if you want all achievements, and it effectively feels like grinding for RNG.

Dissembler is a minimalist puzzle game developed by Ian MacLarty and published by Shape Shop, built around a deceptively simple concept that gradually reveals surprising depth. At first glance, it appears to be another color-matching puzzle title, but it quickly distinguishes itself through its core rule: no new tiles ever fall onto the board. The objective is not to rack up points or create cascading combos, but to completely clear every tile from each puzzle grid. This small but crucial difference transforms the experience from a reactive match-three formula into a deliberate, logic-driven challenge that rewards foresight and careful planning. The gameplay revolves around flipping adjacent tiles to create matches of three or more identical colors. However, you can only flip tiles if doing so results in a valid match, which means every move must be purposeful. Because cleared tiles do not refill, the puzzle becomes a matter of unraveling the board layer by layer until nothing remains. Early levels introduce the mechanics in a straightforward manner, easing players into the concept with manageable layouts and limited color palettes. As the game progresses, new complications are in…

Looks relaxing. Isn’t. It’s like someone gift-wrapped a logic bomb in pastel colors. Gotta admit now my brain hurts... but in a polite way.
