"What if you crossed Pong with foosball?" That's the age-old question we set out to answer with Dudelings: Arcade Sportsball.
Along the bottom of the playfield are a series of neutral characters (let's call them "Dudelings"). Up to two players cycle through these Dudelings during a match, controlling one at a time. Dudelings under player control can jump, dash, and punch their way to victory.
Use your Dudeling to control the ball, defend your goal, and go on the offensive!
Arenas
There are six arenas in Dudelings (five standard and one unlockable). There's Beach, Gym, Streets, Infield, Stadium, and Destination. Each arena reacts in real time to events in the match, feature their own unique personality, an original musical composition by The Brothers Nylon, and a distinct atmosphere!
Game Modes
Dudelings offers multiple game modes to liven up the sportsball experience. Choose from:
- "Classic" mode where each team has a goal they must defend
- "Basket" mode where both teams compete to get the ball in one goal
- "Volley" mode where each team controls their side of the net
- "Pins" mode where each of your opponent's pins must be knocked down in order to score
- New to "2nd Base"
Customizable Rules
Dudelings offers a variety of customizable rules that offer variability in match setups, including:
- "Victory Condition" including Match Point or Timed Matches
- New to "2nd Base"
Balls
There's the normal ball, the bowling ball, the beach ball, and even a balloon. Each adds its own unique spin to the gameplay. No matter which you choose, though, your goal is simple: score points.\n\nWhen a player's Dudeling touches the ball, it turns their color allowing them to score on their opponent's goal.
Pickups
When a ball in your control hits a pickup, it's sure to liven up the arena! Pickups can spawn in extra balls, warp physics, and even change the ball type. Keep your eyes peeled as these power-up tokens can cause an upset.
Multiplayer
Taking cues from the games that inspired us as kids, Dudelings offers an excellent local multiplayer experience! You won't find any of the online-only anticheat malware shenanigans here. Nah dude. Two players. One TV. Head-to-head. On the sofa. Within punching distance of your opponent.
No lag, no ping, and no host getting an advantage.
With that said if you want to play with someone online, you can. This game was designed from the ground up to incorporate native Remote Play Together support.
Single Player
Dudelings offers a CPU versus mode with four distinct difficulty levels! These AI opponents are skilled and offer a unique challenge and opportunity to develop your skills!
States & Achievements
With the release of 2nd Base, Dudelings now tracks player stats like career score, win/losses, favorite game type
Music
To complement this handsome package, Dudelings features an original soundtrack created by veteran psychedelic rock/jazz group "The Brothers Nylon."
Sportslike
Dudelings: Arcade Sportsball is one of those rare, genre-defining titles that spawns many imitators, but has yet to be bested. The genre? The "Sportslike." Pit your Dudelings against each other in a frenetic battle for massive points in a way that vaguely resembles a real-world sport.

I find it hard to write a review for something like this as it's like a small mini-game you'd normally find in a larger mini-game collection title. That is to say, I find this sort of approach atypical in the modern gaming sphere where content is seemingly king; there aren't dozens of game modes and configurations and there's no form of progression (although there are some settings that can modify the game slightly, but not all of them practical) This game is like you bought a virtual foosball table, and then you just use it to play foosball. But that's fine actually, as it is well designed and the minimalism is reflected in its price. And similar to foosball it is, except you have a row of individual "dudelings" you can cycle through to then make them jump upwards and direct the floaty ball towards the enemy's goal. Even though you can only jump straight up, your "dudeling" will also exert a force on the ball in the direction of the enemy's side. There are some power-ups and other intricacies I won't detail, but that is essentially the whole game. However what you get is really fun and doesn't get boring fast, and while the AI does a decent job to keep you on your toes, needles…4 found this helpful
Even if you don't dig the retro-style graphics, stay for the game itself. The gameplay is pretty solid, and you will end up spending hours playing the game just to beat the CPU on any difficulty higher than Medium. Punching your nearby opponent to temporarily stun them adds more variety to the game, as opposed to just jumping to hit the ball and keeping your opponent from scoring. The game is sort of lacking though as far as describing what each ball/pickup does. You'll only know what they end up doing [i]after[/i], well, picking them up. I'm also a little disappointed there's no online multiplayer, as even though you can hook up with one of your friends on Steam, or play with the buddy that's sitting right next to you on the couch, I'm kind of lacking in the...uh, "friends" department, and would rather just play with anyone. Overall though it's a pretty great game, it's available natively on Linux, is Steam Deck Verified, and free updates get added over time. I do recommend giving this game a shot!3 found this helpful
Just a really fun little game. My total play time maybe doesn’t make it seem like I play a lot but this is a great one for a 10 minute break. I find myself reaching for it a few times a week. It’s easy to learn but tough to master. The soundtrack’s awesome, it goes way harder than it needed to. Highly recommended, I think this is well worth the price.1 found this helpful
