Formless Adventure is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. It's a very poorly made 3D rendered low poly puzzle/action level based platformer where you run/jump along a numbe rof obstacle courses with the usual moving platforms etc. The gimmick is that you can change forms and each form has different platforming abilities/properties, but this adds little the boring, overdone and obsolete platformer genre that this game is worsening. It's a neat idea, and it was starting to grow on me. But the level design has far too many moments of making leaps of faith into the unknown. It gets tiresome very quickly. The lack of controller support is also disappointing. Using a keyboard is fine and all, but I can't help but feel like things simply aren't responsive enough.

Formless Adventure by Joyous Raccoon presents itself as a physics-driven puzzle platformer built around a deceptively creative central idea: the ability to freely transform your character into different forms, each with unique properties that affect how you interact with the world. You play as Mr. Blubstache, an unusual, gelatinous protagonist whose malleable nature allows him to adapt to obstacles in ways traditional platforming heroes cannot. This shapeshifting mechanic is clearly the heart of the experience, and at first glance, it suggests a game that could deliver inventive puzzles and satisfying problem-solving through experimentation and adaptability. The game begins on a promising note, easing players into its mechanics through simple scenarios that demonstrate how each form behaves. Some transformations emphasize speed and agility, while others provide weight, stability, or the ability to cling to surfaces. Early levels are designed to encourage curiosity, letting players test these abilities in low-pressure environments where the consequences of failure are minimal. During these initial moments, Formless Adventure captures a sense of playful discovery, as players start t…

Formless Adventure has an interesting concept with the shape-shifting mechanic, but it's dragged down by some serious issues that make it hard to enjoy. The controls feel slippery and unresponsive, and the inability to remap keys is genuinely frustrating — up should not be jump. What really kills it though is a broken portal in one of the frost levels that makes the game literally impossible to complete, and from what I can tell, the developer has never bothered to fix it despite years of bug reports. The camera also has a habit of obscuring platforms right next to you, turning what should be skill-based jumps into blind leaps of faith. At a dollar or two it might be tempting, but with busted achievements, no controller support, and an unbeatable level that's been broken for years, I can't recommend spending even that much.

You spend most of your time fighting the controls and the "slipperyness" of your character than actually playing the game.

Complete garbage. Controls are ♥♥♥♥ and you are unable to remap it. It doesn't always respond to button presses. Game is literally unbeatable because of a bug regarding a portal in the first frost level (that has been known about for over 5 years so you know it will never be fixed.) I don't know how I managed to get this game in my library. I don't think I would have paid for this trash, but I don't remember. Definitely don't bother. There are much better cheap games and this one isn't even worth it if it was free.
