About Golfie

“Golfie is Slay the Spire meets Golf With Your Friends” - Lewis Brindley, Yogscast.

Golfie is a roguelike, deckbuilding minigolf game for 1-8 players. Each run requires strategy, planning, and skill. Build unique decks which will unlock incredible new ways to play, giving you the power to pull off some spectacular shots - or die trying.

GOLFIE WITH YOUR FRIENDS

Join your friends in the action-packed, chaotic multiplayer mode and pitch your wits, skills and devious use of cards against your opponents.

SLAY THE GREEN

Set off from the clubhouse in procedurally-generated roguelike single-player, building upon an ever expanding deck of cards to modify your shots and conquer the 18 holes.

Card powers can vary from increasing the distance or elevation of a standard shot, through to out-of-this-world abilities and power-ups which can be combined to dazzling effect. But be careful: finish over par and you’ll lose some energy – and once it’s totally depleted, the run is over.

Daily runs, endless modes and seeded runs mean you’ll never run out of holes to play. Gain experience during each run to unlock an ever-increasing pool of cards and customisation options, then return to the course with even more ways to play.

With the full release of Golfie you can now take to the fairway with your friends in a no holds barred battle for Golfie supremacy. Earn points by racing to be first to the hole, collect all the coins and crystals, or use your power-ups to ensure that only you make it to the hole to secure your victory at the top of the leaderboard.

The description does say "deck builder" but I thought it would be a few choices, there's like 30 or so cards and most of them are useless or overly complicated. You can only equip a few cards at a time so the draw pile is full of what you don't want. And good luck actually beating a course, I was on "free" mode with unlimited shots and still was testing my patience. Even though the trailer looks decent, this is disappointing and feels terribly dated for a 2023 release.

I think the mechanics of Golfie are some of the most fun out of any roguelike I've played before. However, there are so many annoying and game-breaking bugs that my recommendation is much more difficult to give than I would like. It's sort of a shame this game never became more popular; I think if it had a larger dedicated community, then the developers would have felt more inclined to add more content and fix these numerous bugs. Still, I think this game is easily worth a buy if you can get it during one of it's frequent sales.

Golfie is one of the most creative genre combinations released in recent years because it somehow manages to merge miniature golf, roguelike progression, and deckbuilding mechanics into a surprisingly cohesive experience. On paper, the idea sounds chaotic and almost impossible to balance properly, but once the gameplay loop begins to unfold, the strange combination starts making sense. Instead of playing ordinary rounds of mini-golf, players build decks of cards that completely alter how shots behave while navigating procedurally generated courses filled with hazards, shortcuts, moving obstacles, and opportunities for absurd trick shots. The result is a game that constantly feels unpredictable, rewarding, and far more strategic than a normal golf game has any right to be. The core gameplay revolves around completing runs across multiple randomly generated holes while managing energy, cards, and shot efficiency. Basic shots are intentionally weak, encouraging players to rely on cards that add powerful effects such as increased momentum, curved trajectories, jumping abilities, hovering mechanics, and even teleportation-style movement. Every shot becomes a strategic decision where pl…

There's definitely some glitches when it comes to the course/hole layout generation but they're few and far between. I've encountered maybe 1 or 2 holes that were literally impossible due to generation overlapping in hundreds of holes played. Besides this, it's your typical roguelite in that you need to level up to unlock everything. Then better strategies start to form with building your deck to hit those giga-brained shots and cruise through normal mode.
