GuardGrave

Big thanks to my Steam friends, otherwise I wouldn’t find this interesting game. Never heard of BurgerTime so I started fresh. I thought this game was hilarious because I thought you use a hammer to hit a trash can lid, making it drop to the lower floor and the goal is to make all lids fall. If any miserable monsters happen to walk underneath, the falling lid will crush them - it sounds terrifying but the actual gameplay is made funny, and it reminds me of a minigame in Super 56 where you control a seagull pooping on the heads of the people below. Later, I found out it’s not a trash can lid but a coffin lid, and you’re a graveyard keeper. Well, it became less funny yet still fun to play. The mechanics are simple, but completing all levels isn’t easy. For each area, you need to clear 3–4 regular maps before facing a boss. I was able to complete the game in kid mode, which offers a lot more lives than the regular mode. Generally speaking, earlier areas tend to have harder boss fights, while later areas have tougher monsters in regular maps. Great arcade fun and easy to access for any skill level. Kid mode is nice and easy to get the ropes and eventual first play trough. I see no negatives in this limited scope of a game there is e.g. shut the coffins -> collect money -> beat the boss and move on to the next world. Things get complicated on the way of course but not too much unless you dial up the difficulty. Few have beaten the game on hard.

Fun old-school arcade platformer, easy recommendation

Great homage to a classic but 1 ups it in every way!

I was never a huge fan of Burger Time but the way Guard Grave has taken that concept and run with it is genius! I love these type of old school ideas with a modern twist and this is one of my favourites. I suck at them so was glad that there's a kids mode which allowed me to complete it! The Cat pharaoh is the hardest boss but once I got past that and realised I could use player 2 to keep going, I was able to complete it! The graphics and sound are fantastic. The controls are great, and the extra lives handed out are generous. You need to figure out the boss patterns to beat them but they are not complicated. I might drag my son off Marvel Rivals to play this with me so I can experience Guard Grave in 2 player mode but until then, time to play regular mode!
